Joseph was a young man about seventeen years old. He was the eleventh son of Jacob. His brothers hated him. There are many reasons of their hatred for Joseph. The number one reason of their hatred was he was the beloved child of his father. Bible says in Gen 37:3-4, "Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him."

If you are a child of God, washed by the precious blood of Jesus, you will get the same treatment from this world. Jesus said in John 15:18-19, "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." Because you are not of this world, world will hate you. Because you do not walk in the ways of this world, this world will hate you. History tells us that how God's children were persecuted and many were killed just because they loved God. As long as you live according to the world they will love you but the day you become the child of God this world will become your enemy.

Second reason was that Joseph brought a bad report of his brothers to his father (Gen 37:2). They rejected Joseph because their deeds were bad. Jesus told His disciples in John 7:7, "The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil."

Third reason was Joseph dreamed some dreams and told to his brothers. His brothers could not think of their younger brother ruling over them or becoming greater than them and they hated him more as we read in Gen 37:5, "Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more." Bible further tells us that Joseph's brothers hated him very much even they tried to kill him but somehow they cast him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it then later sold him. Joseph had been taken down to Egypt.

Though Joseph's brothers did what they wanted and what was in their power but a day came when they stood before Joseph trembling in their shoes feeling the guilt of their misdeeds. Look how terribly sorry they were in Gen 42:21-23, "Then they said to one another, "We are truly guilty concerning our brother, for we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded with us, and we would not hear; therefore this distress has come upon us." And Reuben answered them, saying, "Did I not speak to you, saying, 'Do not sin against the boy'; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us." But they did not know that Joseph understood them, for he spoke to them through an interpreter." Sin always brings distress in one's life. They would have never thought of standing before Joseph and pleading like this not even in their wildest dream. But there is a God who cares for His people. Though Joseph forgot his pain as we read in Gen 41:51, "Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: "For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house" yet God did not forget the evil deeds of his brothers. A day came when God repaid their evil to them and made them tremble before their younger brother Joseph.

Bible also tells us in 2 Chr 36:16 But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

You could use your power to persecute the children of God but remember, a day will come when God will repay you everything what you did. But there is a way out. Repent from your sins and turn to God. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He will forgive and forget all your sins and will give you a new life. He will take away your guilt from you and give you peace that world cannot give.

God is not Mocked

By Sherly Isaac

Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

Bible tells us about a powerful king named Pharaoh who ruled in the land of Egypt. Egypt was a land of sophisticated technology, wisdom, magic, magicians and so on. Even some of the technology is a mystery for modern scientists like pyramids etc. In that land Israelites lived as laborers and slave. When Moses stood before Pharaoh and asked to send Israelites out of the Egypt, he not only risked his own life but also Israelites. Pharaoh could have curshed Israelites in a snap of his finger. Of course he tried to heed in that direction yet he could not succeed. A powerful king could not succeed against leader of slaves? How? Could you believe that? The reason was that the Slave leader - Moses was not alone. The creator of universe, the King of kings and Lord of lords was with him. He protected Moses and whole Israelites so that Pharaoh could not do any harm to them.

God said for Pharaoh in Exo 9:15-17, "Now if I had stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, then you would have been cut off from the earth. But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. As yet you exalt yourself against My people in that you will not let them go."

You can see that how Pharaoh tried to be very smart before God and ten times he refused to obey God. But the consequences were terrible. At the end not only he could not stop Israelites going out of Egypt but also he and his whole army were destroyed being plunged in the red sea. Bible tells us in Exo 14:24-30, "Now it came to pass, in the morning watch, that the LORD looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He troubled the army of the Egyptians. And He took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians." Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen." And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained. But the children of Israel had walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. So the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore."

There is a God almighty and who can stand against Him? Very often people think that they are the smartest, brightest and full of wisdom. They are so dependent upon their abilities that they do not regard God as God. But there is a God who makes human wisdom and human power to fail.

Today you may be facing problems like powerful king Pharaoh and his army but God can defeat your problems and make you victorious. The same God who overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea is able to overthrow your problems in the midst of the sea. Look to Him and give yourselves and your problems in the hands of God. He will take care of them.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
