By Sherly Isaac

In the last issues we have written about my dad who is still in the hospital. On 3rd Oct. he was on ventilator. It seems that after regaining consciousness he had not lost his memory that time. But again he retained Carbon Dioxide in his lungs twice and they put him in mask called BIPAP. After they removed the mask he was recovering and that time we realized that he has lost his memory. Still he was able to recognize us family members. It was painful to know that he was unable to understand many things like for few days looking at the watch he could not recognize what it was.

About ten days back my brother and I were sitting with him and talking. Just in front of him there was a huge mirror on the wall. He looked at his own image and asked to us, "who is that man sitting there?" I looked toward my brother and he looked toward me, perplexed not knowing what to reply. We held our breath for few moments then my brother slowly asked, "Try to recognize who he is." My dad looked at the mirror more carefully and said, "I don't remember who he is." A great pain filled in my soul thinking that he is not even recognizing himself. I cannot really explain the pain I felt in my heart. Next day I was sitting with my mom in the hospital. Again he asked the same question, "Who is this man?" After few moments silence I replied, "It is a mirror and you are seeing your own image in it." I do not know how much he understood what I had just explained to him. By this time I had only heard stories of people losing their past memory but it was first time I saw with my own eyes. I was wonderstruck and thought, how an intelligent person could reach to this condition. Next few days his memory was in and out yet a stunning reply came from him about his faith in Jesus Christ when a Hindu therapist asked whether he celebrates Dipawali (Hindu festival) or not? That confirmed that he was clear about his faith atleast. At times when we bade him goodbye, he said, "I am also coming home or I am also going.." When we asked where you are going he replied, "I don't know but I am going."

The whole ordeal was completely heartbreaking but we are holding to the promises of God that He will restore my dad completely and will heal him completely. Everyday he is improving physically and mentally and we know that God is faithful.

My dad's sickness has completely changed our lives. Now we know that what it is to be seriously ill and how painful it is. Never in my life I ever saw anybody in ventilator or a dying person . I knew it that it was painful yet never experienced it in my own life. We prayed for every prayer request that came to our mailbox with great burden but I can say that after experiencing all these things, our prayers will never be the same again. Now we know that what you go through when your loved ones is in serious condition and in the hospital. Now we know that what it is when you realize your loved ones have lost their memory. We will storm the windows of heaven until we get a reply from God for you. Our prayers will never be the same again.

Whole Bible tells us the love story of God for human being. When God created human being and when Adam and Eve lost their identity with God His heart ached. The most painful words came out of the mouth of God written in Isaiah 1st chapter 2 and 3 verses, "Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me; The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master's crib; But Israel does not know, My people do not consider."

There is a God who loves you and wants you to give your original identity as child of God. If you have not yet known Him personally, come to Him, repent from your sins and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. He will give you a new life.

Jesus Carried our Sins, Shame and Sorrows...

By Vinod Isaac

Isa 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

When we look at the sufferings of Christ on the cross we find that He suffered for our every situation of life. It will be impossible to understand the depth of suffering He went through. Reason is, when He was on the cross sins of all the people on the face of the earth that were and that are and that are to come was laid on Him. Isa 53:6 “… And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all”. Today’s population is about 6 billion people on the face of the earth. One single human being is not able to bear the burden of his/her own sins and here is Jesus on the Cross carrying burdens of each and every person living today that is 6 billion people of the earth. Multiply the intensity of the burden each individual carries with 6 billion and that will tell us how horrible it would have been for Jesus to be on the Cross.

Let us examine what are the things Jesus carry on the Cross.

He carried the shame of being ugly

The one who was the Lily of the valley and the rose of Sharon is now hanging on the cross having no form or comeliness. From His head, face, hands, legs and back blood was pouring out. He was hanging as one of the ugliest person in the world. His face was totally unrecognizable. Did you ever go through the rejection of being called ugly? Then remember Jesus became ugly for you so that He can make you beautiful.

Isa 53:2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.

He carried our griefs and sorrows

Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Isa 53:4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.

He was despised and rejected by men. The rejection he faced was for each and every one of us. He was despised. He was considered nobody. He was full of grief and sorrow. Were you ever despised? Have you ever faced rejection? Do you think nobody loves you? Do you think that your grief is so big that no one else has gone through such a grief? Do you say that your sorrow is unbearable? Then let me tell you the rejection, loneliness, grief and sorrow Jesus went through is incomparable with anything you and I go through. It was the grief and sorrow of the whole world that was laid on Him. That is the reason why Bible gives Him the title “A Man of sorrows” and “acquainted with grief”. He bore it all for you and me so that we don’t have to carry rejection, grief and sorrow by ourselves. Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus is there to carry our rejection, griefs and sorrows?

He carried our sins on the cross

Isa 53:5 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; …”
Isa 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

Whenever I think of the love of God it amazes me. He was hanging on the cross carrying the transgressions and iniquities of the very same people who rejected Him, who despised Him, who turned away from Him. Yes we all have sinned against the Lord Jesus Christ at some point or time and we all are guilty of rejecting Him, despising Him or turning away from Him yet He hung on the cross to give us redemption from our sins.

Bible says in Rom 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and Rom 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death.” So by committing sin we all have earned death for ourselves.

Good news is on the cross Jesus has already carried each and every sin we have ever committed. We just need to look to Him for forgiveness.

He carried chastisement for our peace

Isa 53:5 “The chastisement for our peace was upon Him.” How often we lose our peace. Some times just a small problem we lose all our peace. Some times floods of problems hit us and we lose our peace. Problems in the family, problems in the work place, Sickness or financial crisis whatever is the cause behind losing peace, Jesus is the solution. He went through much more than what you are going through. He understands every bit of it. He is the prince of peace and you can find peace even in the midst of big storms. Storms may rage and roar but Jesus can calm them all.

He said to His disciples
John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

He carried healing on his back

Isa 53:5 “….And by His stripes we are healed.” Every single stripe he took it was for your and my healing. 2000 years ago when He was on the face of this earth, every single place He went He healed the sick. All the four gospels are full of healing miracles performed by Him. Everywhere He went He laid hands on people and healed them. The same Jesus who healed people 2000 years ago still heals because He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Heb 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Also God declares in Exo 15:26 “For I am the LORD who heals you." Also Psalmist in Psalm 103 says, “Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases (Psa 103:3).”

Your and my healing is made possible through the stripes on the back of Jesus.

He was oppressed and He was afflicted

Jesus who was the Son of the living God the very God, came down into this world. He created the world. He is the owner of all the gold, silver and diamonds of the world. He is the controller of the whole universe. By His words planets and mountains move, storms go still, graves open up their mouth, yet He was oppressed and was afflicted for you and me. Are you being oppressed today? Are you being afflicted without cause today? Look to Jesus for He has gone through what you are going through.

Whatever problem you may be facing today, Jesus has answer for it and He is the only one who has answer for it. Do you say that you are living in sin and are not able to come out of it? Look to Jesus, tell Him everything and ask Him to forgive you and wash you with His blood. He will gladly do that.

Do you say that your problems are so overwhelming? Look to Jesus and tell Him everything you are going through and He will pull you out. He has gone through every single situation you are facing and He knows how it feels. He understands your agony and will surely hear your cry and answer.

May God bless!

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
