Acts 16:16-19, "Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, "These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation." And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out that very hour. But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities."

In the above verses we read about a girl who followed Paul and Silas and cried out, saying, "These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation." What she said was not a criticism against them instead it appears to be in their favor yet Paul was greatly annoyed and cast out the spirit in the name of Jesus. What was the reason of Paul's annoyance? Paul could see beyond human eyes could see. She was looking a normal spiritual girl but that was not so. She was possessed with fortune-telling spirit - an evil spirit. Paul could know it because he had the gift of discernment as it is written in 1 Cor 12:10, "to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues."

Once we went in a meeting, which was in a big ground. As we walked toward the bookstalls one girl met us. She smiled and said, "Hello, how are you?" I was puzzled because the face was not familiar to me. I looked toward my sister and asked, "Do you know her?" At the same time she looked towards me with questioning eyes and said, "no". So in order to find out who she was, we asked the girl's name, "What is your name?" Her reply was stunning for us. She said, "we came from here and we came from there." Hearing that I stepped back and went to my brother who was standing a few feet away from us while my sister continued talking with her. I said to him, "It seems, she is devil possessed." He said, "yes". As a new believer not knowing what to do in that situation we left the site though she followed my sister a long distance making her frightened.

The gift of discernment will give you ability to discern the spirits whether they are from God or not.

Once some people came to Jesus pretending to be righteous so that they could find fault in Him as we read in Luke 20:20, "So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the power and the authority of the governor. Then they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show personal favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth: Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, "Why do you test Me?"

Jesus could understand their craftiness just by looking towards them because He was filled with the Holy Spirit and had the gift of discernment. 1 Cor 12th chapter talks about the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are given for those who believe in the name of Jesus and are blood washed children of God.

There are people who want to harm innocent lives and their ministries. How could you be protected from these people unless having the precious gift of the Holy Spirit - the discernment? That is the reason why our churches desperately need these wonderful gifts of the Holy Spirit. Our churches have long been ignoring these gifts but in a world like today's we need to be equipped with all the armors of God so that we could stand before the powers of darkness and powers of enemy. But to receive these precious gifts we must be saved from our sins and filled with the Holy Spirit. If you are not saved, ask Jesus to wash you with His precious blood. He will gladly do it.

A life of Holiness

By Sheela Isaac

Holiness is an essence of a Christian life. Bible says good tree produces good fruits and a bad tree cannot produce good fruits. Mat 7:17, "Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. Mat 7:18 "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.” Rom 6:22, “But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.”

The above verse clearly state that the life of holiness means “life must be without sin or sinless.” It further refers that when you are set free from sin then only holiness comes and which in end produces eternal life or everlasting life. Set free from sins means knowing Christ as your personal Lord and Savior or getting saved or receiving forgiveness of sin. Without which holiness is not possible in any means.

Holiness is not what you think is correct but what God thinks is correct is correct. So when you do the things which is correct in the sight of God it is called Holiness. So where do you find the definition of holiness? Of course in Bible which is the word of God, it means our life must be based on the Bible not what others think or what your church thinks or what society thinks or does. If Bible says, telling lie is sin then it is definitely a sin. If Bible says, covetousness is sin then it must be sin. If Bible says, you should not have other gods among you then it must be sin. How many times we break these laws? Have you ever thought about it? Exodus: chapter 20 talks about Ten Commandments, which gives list of don’ts and if you read the whole Bible carefully you’ll find long lists of do’s and don’ts everywhere.

Exo 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before Me.
Exo 20:13 "You shall not murder.
Exo 20:14 "You shall not commit adultery.
Exo 20:15 "You shall not steal.
Exo 20:16 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Exo 20:17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."

Well, holiness is not what people talk about you but again what God thinks about you. If a thief gives good testimony about another thief it does not mean that he is a good person. Do you remember what Pharisees told about Jesus? Mat 11:19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is justified by her children." Pharisees who themselves were grave sinners their testimony does not make Jesus a sinner. Certainly not! Nor the testimony of sinful Pharisees proves that Jesus was not God. No certainly not! We all know Jesus was the most holy God. He never sinned nor deceit was found in His mouth. 1 Pet 2:21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: 1 Pet 2:22 "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth"; 1 Pet 2:23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;” Now look at the testimony about John in Mat 11:18 "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' John who was filled with Holy Spirit was called demon.

What can you make of all these testimonies? We do not need the testimonies of sinners but we need the testimony of God (Jesus). God spoke about David in Bible – “A man after His own heart.” God’s testimony about Job was – “a blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.” Similarly God spoke about many prophets and people like Mosses, Noah etc. who really loved God and followed Him with whole heart.

1 Sam 13:14 "But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you." Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.

You need to think that how God will speak about you today. If you are following Gods commands and seeking Him diligently, if your life is holy according to the word of God, if you are leading a blameless life and staying away from sin and if your conscious is clear then Jesus must have testimony about you too. Nobody else can see inside you but you yourself know what is inside your heart. You know better if there are no secret sins lying beneath your heart or you are not playing a double life. You yourself is your judge. If your life is not clean, if everyday you wake up with sin to end the day with sin then something must be wrong with you. Check up your life and see in whole day how many times you tell lies with your parents, wife, husband, children or friends. Look and see how many times your thought life stinks with rotten thoughts. Check up and see what other numerous sins are lying beneath deep in your life, which comes out in day today life. Be honest with yourself before God and you’ll find numerous even hundreds of them are there. I know well because I lived that life before Salvation. If you are that kind of a person and thinking that you don’t see a way out, you don’t have an ability to live sinless life. Or you might be thinking without your knowledge you commit sin after sin though you try not to do them.

If you think that above said things are correct with you then you need a personal encounter with Savior Jesus Christ. Nothing in this world will cleanse you but only the blood of Jesus. I lived a life of sin, I was there that’s why I know what it was to live in sin and then finding Christ. One day I found Christ. That was the greatest day of my life. As long as I live I never forget that day (3rd Nov 1981) when Jesus came to stay inside of my heart and that was the day when my whole life was turned around. My whole perspective of life was changed. Jesus turned me into a totally new person. 2 Cor 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” Yes that was the greatest achievement in my whole life. I never felt sorry about that decision when I invited Jesus into my heart. My life was filled with joy unspeakable. Nobody could take away that joy from me. No sickness or problems could steal the joy, which I received that day. My family and I went through numerous problems some were small but some were hell breaking loose. In those unbearable moments we cling to Jesus and only Jesus was our comfort and support. Jesus never left us alone in the most needed moments. Yes, if Jesus is your Lord and Savior then He will never leave you nor will let u down. What a joy when Jesus comes in. He changes everything. I am glad to tell you sinless and holy life is possible. If you long for a holy and joyful life then please pray this prayer with me.

Lord Jesus I tried everything to lead a holy life. But I confess that I failed miserably. Lord I do not have ability to change myself but I trust in you. I believe that you died for my sins. I believe you rose from the dead and are alive today. I believe that your precious blood can transform me and change the entire course of my life. Today I invite you into my heart. Please come into my heart and become my Lord. Please come and become my Savior. I give my life to you. I give everything, which I own to you. Today I surrender all. I surrender my will, my thoughts, my ability, my desires and my soul. Please wash me clean with your precious blood. Cleanse me Lord from all unrighteousness. Make me a new creation. Forgive and forget all my sins. Make me whole again Lord. Thank you for changing my life. Thank you for coming into my life. I pray this in Jesus precious and holy name. Amen.

My Beloved Savior

By Sherly Isaac

A man had hundred sheep
One night he counted his sheep
But found only ninety-nine
His heart was troubled

He left all the ninety-nine sheep
Just to search the little one
Which was missing
What a Shepherd, what a deliverer!

He searched everywhere
Gave up his night's sleep
Until he found that little one
What a joy and rejoicing filled his soul!

There were thousands of saved
But Jesus left His heavenly abode
Just to search me who was lost
What a Savior, my beloved Savior!

On the cross He bled and died
Shed the last drop of blood
Just to save me from my sin
What a Savior, my beloved Savior!

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
