Back in India we were waiting for our turn to get our visas processed so that we could come to USA. My dad had sponsored for us. We waited for about six years to get our visas. It was taking too long and at some times it made us weary. One day a person told my brother, "you are waiting from a long time, why don't you marry an American girl and when you get the visa and reach to USA, just divorce her." When I heard that, I felt angry and very sorry and thought that, "what type of evil people are in this world. Just to get visa, spoil one person's life?" The most tragic thing about it is that, these types of people are sitting in our churches and thinking that they are going to heaven.There are second group of people who try to do everything right. They think that, "they are law abiding citizens. Small mistakes will not prevent them from having a place in heaven. I was watching a program called The Way of the Master in which Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort take interviews with people in the shopping malls or on streets. Very often when they ask people whether they have ever lied, stole, looked toward a girl or boy with lust, hated others and took the name of God in vain, they answered, "Yes". Then they were asked again, "by your own admission you are a liar, thief, adulterer, murderer and blasphemer, do you think you will still go to heaven?" And most of them replied, "Yes". Why most of them believe that with all their sinful lifestyle, they will still reach heaven? Some thought that their good works will save them and some thought that God is too loving that he will simply ignore their bad deeds. But the reality is far from it. Both group of people about whom I discussed above are going to hell until they find Christ as their Lord and Savior. Both wicked people and those who pretend to be righteous are heading toward hell unless they are forgiven of their sins by the blood of Jesus. Just because you are born in a Christian family does not make you a Christian neither it reserve a place for you in heaven. No matter how correctly you are trying to do things and trying to live a holy life but you will end up in hell if your sins are not forgiven. We all are lost because of our sin. Jesus Himself said that He came to save the lost humanity. He says in Luke 19:10, "for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." When people complained about Jesus' much involvement with sinners and tax collector, He replied in Luke 5:31-32, "Jesus answered and said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."If you think that you come under one of these groups and you want to make sure that your sins are forgiven and that you need an assurance of going to heaven, please pray this prayer with me:Lord Jesus, I come before you and ask forgiveness of all my sins. Please forgive and forget all my evilness, all my false righteousness and all my rebellion against you. Today, make me your child. Help me to know you personally and walk with you in holiness. Give me the assurance of eternal life, in this moment itself. Thank you Lord for forgiving me and giving me a new life. I pray this prayer in Jesus name, Amen.
In last issue we saw God showed my mom through dream that what was coming next and the very next day a man showed up at our house. God intervened in a very miraculous way and made an escape route for us and we did escape from something horrible. That was the very first time we came to know that our lives were in danger. (Pleas read previous issues for the whole story.)When we knew that enemy is behind us then we did pray to know the will of God and for our safety. The Lord said, "Do not leave your house without knowing My will. Take every step cautiously and very carefully. Before you do anything make sure that you heard from Me". It was so true in our case. Had we failed to enquire from God and took one bad step we would have lost our lives. It was a matter of life and death and in such situations only God can give you good counsel. David said, "The laws of God makes me wiser than my enemies". Psa 119:97, "Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day". Psa 119:98, "You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me". When we were seeking the counsel of God the Lord said, "do not go to church hear after until you hear from Me again". So we did not go to church next eight months in one stretch. We were regular churchgoers and never knew how to miss a Sunday service. Not only that we were the pioneer in that church to begin Sunday school. There was no Sunday school before when we began to attend that church. The excuse was many had tried earlier but failed and it did not go beyond two months of time. Nobody could ever run Sunday school in this church. So one day one of the elders of the church asked us saying, "you have very good knowledge of the Bible why can't you take Sunday school? We enquired from the Lord about it and we three began to take Sunday school. We ran Sunday school nearly eight years without interruption. It had kids from age of five to twenty and it was quite a success. So now when we quit going church didn't know who is going to take care of the Sunday school that we had started. The more surprising thing was nobody ever came from church to enquire about us. They never asked us, "why we are not coming to church, is there any trouble, is there anybody sick, who is going to run the Sunday school"? After eight months of long gap one day Lord spoke to us saying, go to the church. When I heard my heart sank and I began to shake thinking that who is going to die next. It was the hardest decision ever we have taken to go back. We attended 3 services I believe in one and half month's period. Then the Lord said the same thing again, not to go to the church till further orders. So next four months we didn't go to the church in one stretch. Hearing from God and following the commands where the only reason of our sole survival. Are you a minister of the Gospel; are you a true believer in Christ Jesus, then your victory and survival depends on knowing the will of God alone. Why knowing the will of God is so important for a believer?1.Your survival depends on the counsel of God:Look at the life of Elijah. He was a prophet of God. He heard the words from God and conveyed it to king Ahab saying, till I say no rain will fall in this land. 1 Ki 17:1, "And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word." Again the Lord said to Elijah to get out of that place and hide in Brook Cherith, 1 Ki 17:2 , "Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 1 Ki 17:3, "Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 1 Ki 17:4, "And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there." The Bible says, Elijah went and hid himself in creek called Cherith. Here we find Elijah was in constant touch with God. He is hearing directly from God and working accordingly. That's why Elijah could survive during severe famine. Not only that but he was survived from king Ahab's wrath. King Ahab was ready to kill him because of his prophecy about the land. He heard the words from God and spoke to king that is why he became troublemaker for him. 1 Ki 18:17, "Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, "Is that you, O troubler of Israel?" 1 Ki 18:18, "And he answered, "I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father's house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD and have followed the Baals. The Bible says, king Ahab searched for Elijah all through the nation but could not find him. 1 Ki 18:10, "As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my master has not sent someone to hunt for you; and when they said, 'He is not here,' he took an oath from the kingdom or nation that they could not find you.Can you imagine a king of the land could not hunt down a person? King had all the power and army to catch Elijah but whom God hides and protects who can find him. Yes, God's protection is greater than any human help. If Jesus is protecting you nobody would find you to destroy you. 2. Your spiritual growth and ministry depends on the counsel of God:Counsel of God is not only required for the ministry but if you are an ordinary saved person and are not doing any ministry but still you need God's counsel for your spiritual need. Look at the life of Abram. One day God spoke to him saying, Gen 12:1, Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you." Here God is speaking to Abram to go to the land flowing with milk and honey. He was hearing from God that's why he could know the right place where the Lord wanted him to dwell. If you are hearing from God He will lead you in every step of your life. When we were in India and had no plan to move to USA. One day out of the blue my dad got an interview call for Visa. Though he had applied for it long back but was not pursuing it since he was not interested. When it came the Lord said, "He is going to take us all to USA for the ministry." Then only we knew that the Lord wanted to send us to US as a missionary. When we declared that we are moving to US many who were doing ministry laughed. They asked us, "Are you leaving the ministry and going away to live a luxurious life? Some said, India needs more missionary work than US why then you need to go there." Well it is really a mystery why God sends people to another land to preach. Couple of years back one Italian but US born girl visited us. She said, "Lord has called me as a missionary for India and I do not know any of the languages of India." I told her in a joking mood, "I do not know why the Lord sent us to US to preach the Gospel and English is not our first language either." God's plans are different than what we think. And if you want to know what God has kept for you and for your life it is only possible by hearing His voice. In entire Bible we see the same pattern continuing where all the time people of God, prophets and true believers were hearing from God. Abram heard from God, his son Isaac was hearing from God. At one point when severe famine came in that land he wanted to move out of the land but the Lord said to him to stay there and he did. Gen 26:2 & 6, "And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: And Isaac dwelt in Gerar." You may think how to hear God's voice. Well hearing from God is a little tricky. It is not that easy as many think, because there is a fine line between hearing God and hearing your own thoughts. Most of the time the people who think that they are hearing from God is not God's voice but it's their own thoughts. Humans have ability to think and that's why each and every minute of their life some thoughts cross their mind. That is merely a human thought and it has nothing to do with God. Look in the Bible most of the time the people who were listening the words of God were good spiritual people. If you are not a saved person you can hardly hear the voice of God. If you are a saved person you could hear God speaking to you but it is a rare occurrence where you can clearly say that God has spoken to you. But if you are a Spirit filled person (Holy Spirit anointed) you can hear from God more frequently. You can even hear from God every moments of your life. So if you are a God's child you must know how to hear from God in day today life. If you are a minister of the Gospel it is a must for you to hear from God. Unless and until you hear from God and know His perfect will for you and your ministry it is going to be a failure. In Bible most of the people who have done great things for God they all knew how to hear God and how to follow those commands.
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month.
