Kathryn Kuhlman was a woman whom God used with His mighty power. She was born in Missouri, USA on May 9, 1907. In her childhood days she was the most mischievous girl in the whole town. When she was not even six years old she thought of a mischievous plan of giving a "Surprise birthday party" to her Mom. She thought that it would be the most wonderful thing in the world to give a surprise birthday party to Mama. She also thought that Mom would be greatly pleased with her. So she went around in the town and invited every lady who was good to her. She visited them at their home and told them, "Monday is my Mama's birthday, so please come to our house at two o'clock and bring a cake." Monday was always a washday for her mother whether it was a rainy day or bright shiny day. She would wash all her old washboard, galvanized tub and the hand wringer. So on Monday when she finished with all her washing, she thought of relaxing and to take a little nap. At two o'clock sharp, the doorbell rang and her mother who had curlers on her hair and wearing a dirty work dress came to open the door. She saw the ladies standing outside in their best dresses and everyone had a beautifully decorated cake with them. It was a complete embarrassment for Kathryn's mother and she wanted to run and hide but could not. They had already seen her and she had no other option except to receive them in house. Kathryn invited thirty ladies for the birthday party and all of them showed up. Kathryn was delighted with her plan and she looked everything hiding behind the bushes. Well, the party was over, but Kathryn was in big trouble. For the next two weeks she had to eat her breakfast, lunch and dinner standing. This was Kathryn who really wanted to please her mother. She recalls her mother as a very strict and disciplinary one. In one of the meetings of Kathryn, her mother accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. A great change came in her life and she was filled with the love of God. Kathryn says that it was the first time ever that her mother hugged her and held her in her arms with love. That's the love of Jesus that changes us and fills us with His love and compassion. Kathryn herself had that life changing encounter with Jesus in her life. Her mischievous behavior left her. She served the Lord with all faithfulness. I know that there are many mothers who are heartbroken because of their children. Kids have taken wrong steps leaving their mothers in tear and despair. But there is a God who can change lives. In Acts 9th chapter, Bible talks about a very notorious man named Saul who was passionately killing and was persecuting Christians. In one of those missions, when he was journeying towards Damascus, Jesus appeared to him. One encounter with Jesus and his whole life turned around. He became a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Are you brokenhearted because of burdens of your life? Are you without hope and without help? Look to Jesus. He can help you. Give your life and the future of your children in the mighty hand of Jesus. Woman, behold your son!
Mary the mother of Jesus was standing at the cross, seeing her son dying in great pain and in agony. Her heart could have been completely shattered seeing her son on the cross. A mother's heart was aching badly. But this was not the first time that she was in pain and in great agony. Luke 2:41-50 tells us that Jesus and her parents went to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. When they were returning, the boy Jesus lingered behind at Jerusalem. His parents went on one day's journey and they realized that Jesus was not with them. They searched for Him among relatives and acquaintances. When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem. Jesus was sitting among teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. In Luke 2:47 we read, "And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers." Now Joseph and Mary came searching for Jesus in the temple. In Luke 2:48 Bible says, "So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously." Mary's pain and frustration was seen in this verse. She and Joseph were anxious. Many thoughts might have passed through their mind, "will we see our son again? Did someone kidnap our son? What has happened to him? Where is he now..." Yet another incident we read in the Bible when Mary was anxious and desperate for a miracle. She was at wedding in Cana of Galilee. When they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Jesus, "They have no wine" (John 2:3). Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come. (John 2:4)" John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it." Though Mary was anxious yet she knew Jesus could help them in that situation. Her confidence is seen in the 5th verse when she spoke to the servants and told them "Whatever He says to you, do it."And of course Jesus performed a miracle and saved the family from being embarrassed. In a situation like that Mary knew that Jesus would make a way. Now the same Jesus was hanging on the cross. We can only imagine how Mary's heart would have been broken. When Jesus looked at the agonized face of Mary, He was moved with compassion. He immediately said, "Woman, behold your son!" We read in John 19:26-27, "When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home."That's the heart of Jesus. That's the heart of God. He cannot see His children in pain and in sorrow. Psalmist says in Psa 51:17, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart; These, O God, You will not despise." Jesus did not leave her orphan but arranged one of His disciples who could look after her.Are you in distress today? Are you in pain and agony? Have your sons or daughters deserted you? But God has not forgotten you. He sees your pain and agony. He knows what you are going through! He will not leave you as orphan, but He will rescue you from your situation, no matter what you are going through. He can help.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 10th Aug. 2010
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 10th Aug. 2010
