Two weeks back we heard the news about Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi who was killed in Iraq. He was one of the most wanted al-Qaeda members who was involved in killing, torturing and beheading of many innocent people. But a day came when his wickedness came to an end. But it was not the end of his life. His life will continue and he will be in torment forever in hell. This is the end of a wicked person. Bible tells us in Job 18:5 & 13-15, "The light of the wicked indeed goes out, And the flame of his fire does not shine." It devours patches of his skin; The firstborn of death devours his limbs. He is uprooted from the shelter of his tent, And they parade him before the king of terrors. They dwell in his tent who are none of his; Brimstone is scattered on his dwelling."

These verses clearly talks about the horrible place called hell where they will be in burning fire and will have no rest for unending time period. Further we read in Job 18:21, "Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, And this is the place of him who does not know God."

A person who does not know God will end up in this horrible place. But what a contrast to those who know the Lord and walk in His ways. In Psa 37:17-19 we read, "For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the LORD upholds the righteous. The LORD knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied." That is the reason why Bible again and again speaks about the importance of knowing God and walking in His ways. Psalmist says in Psa 2:12, "Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him."

Jesus Himself warned people about hell and also spoke about the blessed life in the heaven. He told in John 3:16-17, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

How a person can have this wonderful life? Just by becoming His children, Just by accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior in their lives as the Bible says in John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

If you do not know God, you are in great danger of ending up in hell fire. Today give your life to Jesus and become His child and walk in His ways. Jesus promised eternal life and it could be yours just by giving your sins to Him.

Wicked and Righteous People

By Sherly Isaac

Gen 20:2-10, "Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, "Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man's wife." But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, "Lord, will You slay a righteous nation also? Did he not say to me, 'She is my sister'? And she, even she herself said, 'He is my brother.' In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this." And God said to him in a dream, "Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her. Now therefore, restore the man's wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours."

Bible talks about the righteousness of Abimelech in the above verses. He says, "In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this." Even God certified that what he was saying was completely correct. And when he came to know that he had taken another person's wife, he and his men were terrified. He rose early in the morning and the first thing he did was of calling Abraham and restoring his wife. This is the sign of a righteous person, he/she who admits their fault or sin and are always ready to correct themselves.

But look at the life of Herod the tetrarch in Mat 14:3-5, "For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. Because John had said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet."

When John the Baptist told Herod about the sin he committed, Herod was angry. He really wanted to kill John but he could only imprison him. Further Bible tells us that he ordered to behead John as we read in Mat 14:6-11, "But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, "Give me John the Baptist's head here on a platter." And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he commanded it to be given to her. So he sent and had John beheaded in prison. And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother."

Neither Herod nor his illegal wife Herodias liked the words of John. They might have thought, "who is he to judge and offend us?" Instead of repenting from their sins and correcting their lives they finally killed John the Baptist.

You can see both types of people around you - the righteous and the wicked people. One will always try to correct himself/herself and other will continue to live in sin without heeding good advice.

But what is the end of a wicked? Let us again read the warning of God to Abimelech in Gen 20:7, "Now therefore, restore the man's wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours."

God plainly told him, "But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours." The wages of sin is death, isn't it? But Abimelech restored the wife of Abraham and because of his righteous act, God blessed him. Healing and health came to him and his family. We read in Gen 20:17-18, "So Abraham prayed to God; and God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants. Then they bore children; for the LORD had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham's wife."

But contrary to this, the end of Herod was horrible. We read in Acts 12:20-24, "Now Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; but they came to him with one accord, and having made Blastus the king's personal aide their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food by the king's country. So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. And the people kept shouting, "The voice of a god and not of a man!" Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. But the word of God grew and multiplied."

Before that Bible tells us that Herod persecuted believers in Acts 12:1-4, "Now about that time, Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church. Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword." And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread. So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover." But Peter was miraculously delivered from the hand of Herod by God who made Peter to escape out of the prison by sending an angel.

But a day came when Herod died a horrible death as written in the Bible, "Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. But the word of God grew and multiplied." This is the end of a wicked person who do not repent from their sins but continue in wickedness.

But there is a blessed life for those who repent from their sins and turn from their wicked ways. Bible tells us in Prov 28:13,"He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." Jesus came in this world and gave His life for our sins. If we confess our sins and turn to Him, our lives will be a blessed one. And He will give us eternal life. But tragedy is for those who do not confess their sins but continue in wickedness. On the one side blessings and life and on the other side curses and death. What will you choose?

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
