Back in India we loved watching cricket matches. Because we spent too much time in those cricket matches, our parents restricted us from spending time in it. But we used our car to listen the commentary from a small transistor. There were times when we gave up our sleeps in cold winter nights (There is no heating system in Indian homes. People survive with heavy blankets and fire) just to watch cricket match almost whole night. Every cricket match was great but matches between India and Pakistan were most thrilling. If India lost the match it was most frustrating time for us.

Ones India and Pakistan were playing one-day match. Pakistan did batting first and scored very high score. In the afternoon India started batting but soon three or four batsman got out and went back to pavilion. The chances of winning that match were almost impossible. One young batsman named Sachin Tendulkar came for batting. While he was on the ground trying to settle down, he saw some of his playmates were out and went back to pavilion scoring very few runs. But it did not bring any frustration over this young man. He was well aware that if he wanted to win, he must do something. He started playing aggressively hitting every ball came on his way while other side players were returning to pavilion one by one. He started scoring with fours and six runs. Still mounting score was there and very few balls left to play. It was evident that India is losing the match. But to everyone's surprise in the last remaining six balls, he could manage to score with fours and sixes. Finally India won that match. I could still feel the thrill of that match after these many years.

The game was completely messed up because many of the players could not play well at the beginning. Shadows of failure were hovering over their heads but when one young man stepped in that messed up situation and started batting, the whole atmosphere changed. When that young man stepped into that hopeless situation the failure turned into victory.

In our messed up lives, in the midst of our failures and in the midst of our defeats when Jesus steps in, the whole situation changes. Our failures turn in to victory and triumph. Our misery turns to blessing. Psalmist says in Psa 30:11-12, "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever."

The same God who turned the mourning of psalmist into dancing can turn our mourning into dancing. The same God who put off the sackcloth of Psalmist into gladness can turn our situation around. Are you going through heartbreaks, failures, tears and sorrows? There is a God who really wants to wipe away our tears and wants to fill our hearts with great joy and peace that world cannot give. Just allow Him to step into your life. He will turn around your situation.

But he did not know

By Vinod K. Isaac

Judg 16:20 “..But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.”

Story begins from Judg 13:1 Israelites had sinned and God had put them under Philistines for forty years. These are the same Israelites who had been in bondage and hard work in Egypt. God with His outstretched arm redeemed them and brought them out.

They sinned again and again and every time they sinned when went into the bondage and every time they repented God relented and sent a judge to deliver them.

In Judges 10:12-14 we read an interesting conversation between God and Israelites. God says to them that every time your enemy oppressed you I delivered you from their hand and yet you have forsaken Me.

Judg 10:12 "Also the Sidonians and Amalekites and Maonites oppressed you; and you cried out to Me, and I delivered you from their hand. Judg 10:13-14, "Yet you have forsaken Me and served other gods. Therefore I will deliver you no more. Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in your time of distress."

Israelites responded with pleading that "We have sinned! Do to us whatever seems best to You; only deliver us this day, we pray." and God heard them again and delivered them.

In Judges 13 it is again we see the same situation repeated that Israelites have sinned and God had put them under Philistines and they are oppressing the Israelites. Starting from verse 2 God is preparing once again to deliver Israelites from the hand of Philistines.

His eyes moved to and fro all over the land and found Manoah and his wife. These people were righteous but had no children of their own. For them it was medically impossible to have children. God sent an Angel and said to the wife of Manoah that she is going to conceive and bear a son.

Judg 13:3 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, "Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.

Judg 13:5 "For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines."

It was great news for her that not only she is going to get a child even the child is going to be great and will deliver Israel out the hand of the Philistines. What a great promise and what great news.

Day came when God fulfilled His promise and son was born, he was named Samson and he grew and Lord blessed him. Bible talks about very few children specifically that they grew in the favor of God. Indeed Samson was one those blessed child who grew in the favor of the Lord.

Judg 13:24-25, "So the woman bore a son and called his name Samson; and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him. And the Spirit of the LORD began to move upon him at Mahaneh Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol."

Every thing looked wonderful. Samson’s parents may have told him again and again that how special he is and how great he is going to be and that how Lord is going to use him. They may have given him clear instructions on how to lead a holy life and how to avoid unclean stuff etc. etc.

But every time he steps out of his house and goes among Philistines, he is doing exactly the opposite.

He goes to Timnah and sees a girl and wants to marry her while God had forbidden marrying a heathen girl.

Then he goes and eats honey from the carcass of lion. While God had said very clearly that every thing that touches a carcass is unclean.

While all this is happening one side on the other side God was using him to do great things. God had called him to deliver Israelites from the hand of Philistines. Every time he fought with Philistines God gave him great success.

First he killed thirty of the Philistines.
Judg 14:19 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of their men” Then he took 300 foxes and torched the grain fields of Philistines.

Then he killed 1000 Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey.

Every time he is bound with ropes, those ropes were no matches to him. Every time God will deliver him from the hand of the enemy. While all these things are happening he does yet another mistake. He goes and finds a harlot named and lives a life of sin. Finally he found a woman called Delilah and didn’t know that his sins are going to bring an end to every thing.

One fine morning when he woke up he did not know that Lord has left him. Till God was with him he could do mighty things and enemy was no match to him. As soon as God left him he became from extraordinary to ordinary. Enemy caught him, took out his eyes and shackled him.

God called Samson and used him with mighty power but sin brought him down. Sin worked in him until God was forced out of his life. Yes my friend sin works in your life so that it can strip you of everything you have. Most troublesome thing is Samson didn’t know that God has left him till it was too late.

However great things Samson may have done but ultimately the relationship with the Lord was the most important factor. If you lose relationship with the Master then you are nothing. For John 15:5 says, “for without Me you can do nothing.”

It may be possible that you are a blood washed child of God and yet living in sin. It is possible that devil may be exploiting your weaknesses time and again. It may be possible that God is using you with signs and wonders but on the other hand you may be living a secret double life. I tell you that you will even not know when Lord left you.

Don’t play with the Holy Spirit. Don’t allow situation to reach a point where God may have to say enough is enough. Samson had every thing till God was with him. If God is using you with signs and wonders know it for sure it is not you but it is God who is using you. The moment God leaves it is over.

Never take God’s grace for granted. Never ever. He is God. He is not the door mate under your feet. Has God given you promises? Hold them fast and walk in the perfect will of God. Ask the Lord that he may give you strength to lead a holy life. Run away from sin as fast as possible.

A Prophet like Moses - Part 5

By Sherly Isaac

Deu 18:18 'I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.

Very often Muslims argue that Jesus was not a prophet like Moses saying He did not poses the similarities with Moses. They argue that Moses was ruler over many but Jesus was not. So they believe that the prophecy was spoken for Mohammad.

But if we compare the life of Moses and Jesus we can see the striking similarities in Jesus with Moses, which is not found in Mohammad. In last weeks we have seen many of the similarities between Moses and Jesus and few of them were Moses was Ruler over Israel at the same time he acted as High Priest.

Now if we look in to the life of Jesus, He was called Messiah. Hebrew word "Messiah" is a significant title for Jesus. The same word is translated in Greek as "Christ". The meaning of both words is "Anointed One." Throughout Old Testament three categories of persons were anointed as they were set aside to God's particular use: 1. The prophet, 2. The priest, and 3. The king. As Moses fulfilled all three of these offices, Jesus also fulfilled. He was and is Prophet, High Priest and the King.

God promised David with these words written in 2 Sam 7:12-14, "When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men."

God promised to send an everlasting King whose kingdom will never end. At the time of Jesus' birth wise men came from far country and started enquiring about the newborn king in the king's palace as we read in Mat 2:1, "Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him." When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him."

Before Jesus was crucified a great multitude heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, John 12:13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' The King of Israel! (John 12:12-13)"

Jesus Himself acknowledged His kingship in Mat 27:11, 'Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, "Are You the King of the Jews?" So Jesus said to him, "It is as you say."'

But he was no king in the sight of people. He was an ordinary citizen walking among people, preaching and doing miracles. Jesus made it clear about His kingship and kingdom in John 18:36-37, Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here." Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

Jesus did not come to be the worldly king but He came to establish His kingdom of righteousness in this world. He came to set the captives free. Jesus said in John 8:32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Pilate could not understand or know the truth though the truth was standing just in front of him. Pilate asked in John 18:38, "What is truth?" Today many of us are like Pilate who does not know the truth. There are many who have never known Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. It is possible that you are an active member of a Church and you may read your Bible everyday but you do not know Jesus personally in your life. Unless you know the Truth, you are in bondage and slavery of sin. But Jesus came to deliver us from all our bondages and sins. He gave His life for us so that we could become the children of King of kings and Lord of lords. You can have this wonderful life by knowing the truth - knowing Jesus personally. Repent from your sins and turn to God, know Him personally before it is too late.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
