How can we get rid off of our sins and get forgiveness or salvation of our souls? This question has gone through every mind and that is the reason why people have searched and invented many rituals. The quest for salvation had made people to search for a solution and many have come up with their own ideas. Can any religion save any of us from our sins? Could our good works or righteous deeds or rituals give us forgiveness of our sins? I remember how religious my parents were though they did not have a personal relationship with God. Yet they went to church every Sunday and took us with them in every service. No matter what activities the church had, they were first to participate in those events. They also insisted on us to participate in those activities.With great faith in their hearts they fulfilled those rituals week after week that they thought would ultimately give them salvation. My mom would fast and pray every week. Once or twice I also tried to copy her but realized that it was too hard to finish even in four or five hours. My mom would often tell others that we worship the living God and would challenge other’s faith. Though we were brought up in very strict religious environment yet none of us knew that God is so real that we could meet Him, talk to Him and have fellowship with Him. Our lives were shattered because we had no peace in our lives. Our religious acts could not give us any peace or joy in our hearts. But a day came when we individually came to know that Jesus gave His precious life for our sins. We all accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior and invited Him in our hearts and home. When Jesus came into our lives, He changed everything. He forgave and forgot our sins and He gave us peace that this world could not. The fasts that was so difficult to perform when I was not saved has now become easy to do. Yes, the work of peace and the work of salvation has already been completed by Jesus Christ on the cruel cross. So we need not to do rituals for earning our salvation. By our righteous deeds we cannot earn salvation for our souls because our righteous deeds are all filthy rags before God. By no means can we pay for getting rid of our sins. David says in Psa 49:6-7, “Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches, None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him;”But Jesus said in Mat 20:28 "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."Jesus paid the price of our salvation on the cross, now we just have to come to Him and receive that salvation through Jesus Christ. Come to Jesus and ask for forgiveness of your sins. He will forgive and forget all your sins and will give you eternal life, peace, joy and happiness that world cannot give.
In every religion we see a common theme, doing righteous deeds to earn salvation. In Hinduism it is believed that if they visit four Dhams or four pilgrimages which are situated in four corners of India, they can be saved. Or if they go and take baths in Ganges River and other rivers in India their sins would be washed away. I have seen the hard work people do back in India to earn their salvation. There was one boy in my class. One day when he came in our class, his forehead was injured and he was bleeding. The teacher asked what the matter was? He replied, “I am searching God and forgiveness of my sins… so I scratched my forehead with a sharp instrument” The whole class including the teacher was shocked and stunned hearing his reply. Then the teacher explained to him saying, "by cutting your body, you cannot get rid of your sins".There was one another girl with us in our hostel. She vowed to abstain from few essential things like foregoing some food there by observing semi-fast, and doing such things as walking without shoes during winter. It was horrible to see her walking bare foot in wintertime. I have also seen women waking up very early in the morning, taking bath in cold water in the winter season and going to temple. In those days when I saw them doing all these things, how many times in my heart I thought that, if I was born in a Hindu family I would have never been able to do it. How hard they work for salvation of their souls! But alas, they do not find it even after their hard work. Similarly Muslims believe that if they participate in daily prayers, give alms, go to hajj (pilgrimage), fast in the time of Ramadan, do good works they could probably make it to heaven. As in Quran it is written that in the last days god will weigh their good works and bad works in weighing machine and if their good works exceed than bad works then they will be allowed to enter into heaven otherwise they will be sent to hell. Another thing they believe is that they can achieve salvation through martyrdom in holy war. Some Muslims believe that in fact martyrdom is the only way to salvation in Islam.If you take any religion of the world including Christianity, you can find this desperate search by human beings for God adopting different methods. But we would never be able to get salvation through our own efforts. At the end we will not have anything to offer except our sinful lives. So if no religion can offer salvation then how can we find salvation of our souls? Bible tells us that there is no other name given for our salvation except Jesus Christ as we read in Acts 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."All religions require of us so much of our effort but only Jesus is the opposite of all religions. He said in Luke 19:10, "for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." He came searching for us!Jesus Himself took all our sins on Himself and died on behalf of us. The work of our Salvation is already done on the cruel cross. No amount of work would help us to achieve salvation but salvation is available free of cost by the shed blood of Jesus. Bible says in 1 John 1:8-9, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Also in 1 John 1:7 it says, “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” Yes, Jesus Christ is ready to forgive our sins and give us salvation. There is no other way except through Jesus alone. Come to Jesus and repent from your sins. Give your life to Jesus. He will give you salvation and eternal life.
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
