God of the Bible is the God who answers prayer. He said in Psa 50:15, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." Psalmist says in Psa 22:4, “Our fathers trusted in You; They trusted, and You delivered them. They cried to You, and were delivered; They trusted in You, and were not ashamed.”

Yes, God of the Bible is the mighty God who answers prayer. Whoever called upon His name was not ashamed but got sure deliverance and their prayers were answered. God came for their rescue in times of trouble.

Just a few days back Georgia’s Governor declared a day of prayer because the state of Georgia is facing the worst drought in its history. They even said that the main river which is the main source for the state would dry up in three months unless there is rain. People gathered to pray and they called upon the name of the Lord. Some people gathered to protest and the media laughed at those who prayed and called upon the name of the Lord. But God answered the prayer and the next day there was half an inch of rain.

More than one and a half century back there was a man of God. His name was Hudson Taylor who was a missionary to China. In his first trip to China he faced great challenge as their sailing vessel was becalmed in the vicinity of New Guinea. The captain lost his hope because four-knot current carried them swiftly toward sunken reefs near the shore.

Seeing the distressed look on the captain's face as he peered intently into the sea, Hudson Taylor inquired as to the cause of his anxiety. This was the reply: "A four-knot current is carrying us swiftly toward some sunken reefs over there. Our fate seems to be sealed." On the shores of the island, cannibals were rushing about and lighting fires in great glee. Presently the captain spoke again: "We have done everything that can be done." "No," responded the young man, "there is one thing we haven't done. Four of us on board are Christians. Let each of us retire to his cabin and in agreed prayer ask the Lord to give us a breeze immediately." This was agreed upon and done. After a few minutes of earnest intercession, the young man came up on deck confident that the petition had been granted. Finding the first officer, a godless man, in charge, he requested him to let down the corners of the mainsail. "What would be the good of that?" he asked. The young man told him that he and three others had been asking God to send a wind, that it was coming immediately and that there was not a minute to lose, since they were so near the reefs. With a look of contempt, the officer replied with an oath: "Nonsense! You can't pray up a wind." Noticing a few moments later that the topmost sail was beginning to tremble, he said: "That is only a cat's-paw -- a mere puff of wind." "Never mind what you think," cried the young man. "Let down the mainsail quickly."

This he was not slow to do. Hearing the heavy tread of the men on deck, the captain came up from his cabin and saw that the breeze had indeed come. In a few minutes they were sailing away from the dangerous reefs, much to the disappointment of the native cannibals on the beach.

Writing of this and similar experiences, Hudson Taylor said: "Thus God encouraged me, ere landing on China's shores, to bring every variety of need to Him in prayer, and to expect that He would honor the name of the Lord Jesus and give the help which each emergency required."

Today also God is ready to hear the cry of His children and answer their prayers. Are you in despair today? Have you lost your hope? Look to Jesus. He can help you. He can deliver you. He can answer your prayers.

Give Thanks to the Lord

By Sherly Isaac

1 Th 5:18, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

The whole Bible talks about giving thanks to the Lord or praising God for His goodness and blessings that He pours in our day-today life.

In the year 1863 when Abraham Lincoln saw the bountiful blessings and great harvest in the country he declared the thanksgiving proclamation as follows:

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battlefield; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and Union.

In the Bible also we read about Hannah who gave thanks to God for giving her a son. Hannah had no children and it bothered her greatly but when she went in the house of God, she cried out to God and God answered her prayers. Even before she received the answer for her petition yet she was happy. We read in 1 Sam 1:18, “…So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.” She knew in her heart that almighty God has answered her prayers.

Later Samuel was born. When Samuel was a little older she took her to the house of God so that he could appear before the Lord and remain there forever as we read in 1 Sam 1:21, “Now the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice and his vow. But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, "Not until the child is weaned; then I will take him, that he may appear before the LORD and remain there forever."

She returned with her child to give thanks to the Lord for His great mercy and kindness that He showed on her. In return God blessed her abundantly and wiped away all her tears.

Even today God is ready to wipe away all our tears. Jesus came in this world and gave His precious life for us so that we could come out of our sins and live a holy life. He took all our sins on Himself and made a way for our redemption. How much we need to be thankful for the great sacrifice Jesus did for us. Because of His sacrifice we can get forgiveness of our sins.

Are we thankful for the great and mighty things God did in our lives? Often we forget that every blessing which we enjoy is from God whether small or great.

Let us thank God along with psalmist Psa 106:1, "Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever."

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
