Today is Thanksgiving Day in America. On this day we thank God for the blessings He has poured in our lives. Of course we should be thankful to the God who has blessed us, protected us from all evil and took care of us. But often it is limited to good food, best bargain in shopping, decorating our homes and such things. But more than all these things we should bow before the Lord with heart full of thanks and gratitude not only for the material blessings but also for the great sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the love of God towards us in saving us from hell fire.When we say about hell fire many believe that it is just a myth. A few days back I was searching something and found information about Kola Superdeep Borehole project. This is the deepest manmade hole in the earth that is about 7.6 miles deep. The digging started in the year 1970 and their goal was to make this hole 15,000 ft. deep. But they could not continue due to unexpected high heat and in the year 1992 they had to stop at 12,262 ft. This is the deepest hole made by human beings ever. There are some very interesting facts about this hole and the findings by scientists. “The Russian researchers were surprised at the quickness by which how quickly the temperatures rose as the borehole deepened, which was the factor that contributed in ultimately halting the project's progress. Despite the scientists' efforts to combat the heat by refrigerating the drilling mud before pumping it down, at twelve kilometers the drill began to approach its maximum heat tolerance. At that depth researchers had estimated that they would encounter rocks at 100°C (212°F), but the actual temperature was about 180°C (356°F)– much higher than anticipated. At that level of heat and pressure, the rocks began to act more like a plastic mass than a solid material, and the hole had the tendency to flow closed whenever the drill bit was pulled out for replacement. Forward progress became impossible without some technological breakthroughs and major renovations of the equipment on hand, so drilling stopped on the SG-3 branch. If the hole had reached the initial goal of 15,000 meters, temperatures would have reached a projected 300°C (572°F).” (Quoted text)Another unexpected discovery was the large quantity of hydrogen gas, with the mud flowing out of the hole described as "boiling" with hydrogen.But as is often the case when humans venture into the unknown, Kola illustrated that certainty from a distance is no certainty at all, and a few scientific theories were left in ruin. One scientist was heard to comment, "Every time we drill a hole we find the unexpected. That's exciting, but disturbing." They also believe that there is liquid fire beneath it.But those who have read the Bible these things are not surprising for them because Bible tells us about hell and heaven. And this latest find exactly describes about the hell described in the Bible. Hell is a place of intense heat and fire and located somewhere under the earth. Because we read about those who rebelled against God went down with their goods as we read in Num 16:31-32, “Now it came to pass, as he finished speaking all these words, that the ground split apart under them, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men with Korah, with all their goods.”Jesus told a parable of rich man and a beggar in Luke 16:19-31. The rich man went to a place of fire and torment as it is written in Luke 16:23-24 "And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'”But there is good news that Jesus died on the cruel cross so that we could live forever and not go to hell. Jesus said in John 3:16-17, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”If you are not sure about your destination, ask Jesus to come into your life. When He will come in, He will give you eternal life.
In the year 2005 my dad was very sick and he got hospitalized. Doctors did all kinds of biopsies and tests but all the results came out negative. But his condition was continually deteriorating. Slowly he was losing his ability. Because there was no improvement, doctor told my brother that, “medicines are not working on him and prognosis does not look good.” Within a few days he lost his ability to speak and eat. So doctors started feeding him through a tube. On 3rd Oct. he had respiratory arrest. He was unconscious and four doctors told us that his chances of survival were nil. While doctors prepared him to take him to ventilator we waited in the family room praying and claiming God’s promises for his life. Hospital chaplain came and talked with us and prayed with us. Later I came to know that chaplain comes to comfort the bereaved family. No doctors ever expected him to live again. But we are so much thankful to the almighty God in whom we put our trust, who did not leave us nor forsake us. He came for our rescue. Next day, my dad was awake and was able to recognize us. But the next two months were horrible for us as his recovery was very slow and at times he was semi conscious or sleeping most of the time. He also lost his memory. Even he could not understand whether it was night or day. Looking at the watch, he could not understand what device it was. Looking at TV he could not understand what thing it was. We fought many battles in our lives but this was the greatest battle of our lives. Sometimes his condition looked normal and sometimes he looked as if he was very sick. At times his sodium and potassium was either up or way down. Doctors were puzzled seeing his condition. But still we believed that God would heal him completely and bring him back home healed and healthy. Two or three days after Thanksgiving Day in the year 2005, one morning my brother called from hospital saying, doctor is discharging dad today. The reaction was mixed because we did not know how his condition would be after coming back home. He was transported by medi-car and when the driver asked which one is the house, he showed the correct house. With the help of my brother and medi-car driver’s help he slowly climbed up the stairs. When he came inside we all knelt down and thanked God with tears of joy in our eyes for the miracle God did in our lives. We never thought of seeing this day. And it sounded as the perfect Thanksgiving Day gift from almighty God. Two years later today my dad has fully recovered. All praise and glory belongs to Jesus alone.Yes, there is a God with whom all things are possible. He is able to move mountains of our lives and perform mighty miracles. As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month.
