This week, most of the people of New Orleans were evaquated because of Hurricane Gustav. On TV it was explained how the scientists determine the streangth and the path the hurricane may take by flying their plane inside the eyeview of the hurricane. They calculated the strength of the harricane and the place where it is likely to landfall. One of the news readers said that, they can study and do research of this nature but nothing what they do could stop the hurricane from coming.

How true it is! With all the modern equipemnts we are unable to stop hurricanes, tornadoes or natural disasters. In fact many of the things which happen in this world remain as mistery to the scientists. But when we look at the life of Jesus, we see that He had power over nature’s fury. Once He was sleeping in the boat. There arose a big storm and His disciples were completely frightened. They came to Jesus and woke Him up saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!" Then Jesus rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm. This made everyone to wonder who this Jesus is? As we read in Mat 8:26, But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"

This was the power manifested by Jesus when He was in this world. When He was departing from this world, He spoke to His disciples saying, (Mark 16:15-18), "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Jesus left this world but His power did not. On the day of Pentecost, He sent His Holy Spirit that filled His disciples as well as those who were praying in the upper room. When They received Holy Spirit, mighty miracles started taking place. Church started to grow in leaps and bounds. Signs and wonders followed through their lives.

Even today Jesus wants to fill us with His mighty power to shake the world. His power is still the same as it was in the yesterdays.

A few years ago I was watching news on TV. I believe that it was the news of Florida where weather was not good. Weather center issued warning of the coming tornado telling the people to take cover as soon as possible. One old lady was sitting in her porch and she said, “I saw the tornado coming straight towards me in the direction of my house. I didn’t know what to do except to call upon the name of Jesus.” She further said, “I looked straight at the tornado and rebuked it in Jesus name. Immediately the tornado changed its course and turned to another direction and I was spared because of Jesus.”

Yes, this is the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised to give Holy Spirit to His children to those who are born of Him. In Acts 1:8, He said, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

Do you want this mighty power of Holy Spirit in your life? Ask Jesus to forgive and forget all your sins and wash you with His precious blood. Then ask Him to fill you with the Holy Spirit. He will surely do it.

Gladness in my Heart -Part 2

By Sherly Isaac

Psa 4:7-8, "You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety."

The psalmist says how God filled him with gladness and peace which was more than in the days when material things increased. In fact Material things does not give us true joy and peace. We try to fill our emptiness with material things and think that, "If we have much money our lives would be happier… or if we have big house we could live in peace… or if we have too much food we will live in peace." But it is not true. You could be having all the riches of this world and still it is possible that you may remain worried and unable to enjoy your wealth in your life.

Jesus was a frequent visitor in the house of Martha, Mary and Lazarus. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and heard His words but Martha was overwhelmed because of much serving. She went to Jesus and said, Luke 10:40-42, But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

Perhaps Martha was working very hard to entertain her guests including Jesus by her culinary skills. But Jesus said, Mary had chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her. Often we try to work hard to please God by going through all kinds of rituals and traditions and it often overwhelms us. But God does not need our good works or skills but He wants us to go before Him just as we are. He is more interested in our soul than our work.

There is another woman about whom we read in John fourth chapter. She was a Samaritan woman. She was trying to fill her emptiness by marrying one man after another. She had already had five husbands, and then she was living with her boyfriend. We read in John 4:16-18, Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here." The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You have well said, 'I have no husband, for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly."

Her emptiness, her sins and her burdens were rolled away when she met Christ. One encounter with Jesus turned around her life. She was rejoicing and excited to share about Jesus. She returned home and told all her villagers and they also came and received Jesus.

One encounter with Jesus can change our lives too. I remember when we were not saved we had no joy or peace in our lives. Though we had everything in our lives, wealth, good big house to live, and servants to attend to every need of ours yet we were empty. We tried to fill our emptiness by going to movies, reading novels and trying to do good works and attending regular church services. We worked hard to earn our salvation but salvation was far away from us until we had an encounter with Jesus. It changed our lives forever. We realized that our good works and our rituals couldn’t save us but the precious blood of Jesus alone that was shed on the cruel cross could. We experienced great joy and great peace that this world could not give us, which neither our wealth nor big position of my dad could give us.

Today also Jesus wants to redeem every person from his or her hardship and troubles. He said in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Come to Jesus, He will wipe away your tears and fill you with great peace and joy. He will forgive and forget all your sins and make you a blessed person.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
