2 Thessalonians 2:13, "But we are bound to give thanks to God always." Many people ask this question that, "How can a person give thanks to God when every thing goes wrong and when there is no hope." Yes, it is really very difficult when things go wrong and in that situation for praising God. But if we see the life of Joshua, we find how he and the whole Israelite people praised God and brought down the wall of Jaricho. The Bible says in Joshua 6:1 –5, "Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the LORD said to Joshua: "See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. "You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him." Jericho city had high walls and secure doors and victory was not possible till an entry could be made. Many times we go through same situation. Problems come and stand like big walls and we feel ourselves helpless behind those walls. But look at Joshua. He obeyed God and did what He told Joshua to do. He believed in victory and acted accordingly. As the Bible says in Joshua 6:16, "And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: "Shout, for the LORD has given you the city!" And we see the result. Many of us do mistake here. When we go through problems, we see only problem in front of us and we think about our problems only an say, "every thing is over". But we totally forget that there is a God who can see beyond the walls of our problems, our circumstances and our hard situations. We forget that He is able to take us beyond those walls when we praise God. Once I read about a nude dancer in a nightclub. Her mother prayed for her several years but nothing happened. She became worse and worse. One day her mother went to a preacher and told him about her daughter with tears. Preacher did listen to her story very carefully and finally he said, "Go and praise God for your daughter." Her mother was stunned listening those words and for a moment she thought, "what is wrong with this preacher, is he crazy?" With a broken heart she went home but somehow she thought of praising God and so she knelt down and started praising God. Something happened that night. Her prayers were unanswered all these years, but her praising reached heaven. Her daughter who was dancing at that time, felt restless and ran to her car to come back to her home. But as she was heavily drunk, she could not reach the car. She fell at the road side. No one knew how much time she was lying there and a passer who went by that side saw her. He told her about the love of Christ that Jesus came to save the sinners and died on the cruel cross to save us. She said, "I am not worthy to take His pardon.." But the person said from the Bible, Romans 5:6 –8, "For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die but God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." And at that moment she cried and repented from her sins and invited Jesus to come into her heart. She became a new person because her mother praised God. Yes, my friend, you may be today going through a situation like that and think that there is no solution for that problem. You may be thinking every thing is over. But whatever may be your situation today, look to Jesus and start praising Him. Let the walls of your problems, walls of your tears, walls of your depression come down flat today and may God intervene in your situation and bless you. Anointing of the Holy Spirit breaks the yoke, it destroys the power of darkness. If we read in Bible we can see that the people who did great work for God, people who stood as mighty warriors of faith, they were all ordinary people, but they were anointed by God. Moses was an anointed prophet who could lead more than 600,000 people, and bring them out of Egypt from captivity. Joseph to whom God spoke through dreams was an anointed person. When anointing of God came upon people they turned from ordinary to extra ordinary persons. (Judges 6:34) When the spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, he became a deliverer of Israel. Elijah brought fire from heaven because of God’s anointing. He was translated to heaven because of God’s anointing. 2 King 2:11, "And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven." Elisha received double portion of anointing when Elijah’s mantle fell on him. And in the new testament we read in Acts 10:38, "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him". Lord Jesus said in Luke 4:18-19, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord". Yes my friend when anointing of God comes it turns ordinary persons to extra ordinary. Let us see quickly what anointing does for us?1.Anointing breaks the power of devil: Many times we see people have a wrong concept about anointing. When you talk about anointing they say, "it is for a particular group, or it is only for a preacher. I am an ordinary person I am not going to preach, I do not have ministry, or I am not going to become a Pastor. So it is not for me". It is a wrong opinion about anointing. What the Bible says in Joel 2:28, Acts 2:17, "And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams." These verses say, "I will pour my spirit upon ALL FLESH" God wants to give this gift to all. But we do not receive because of our own ignorance or lack of knowledge. Yet there is another group of people who say, "all people have anointing of the Holy Spirit." That is another wrong concept. Holy Spirit cannot dwell in sinners or unsaved person. If everybody on this earth is having Holy Spirit then there is no HELL. Every body is going to heaven because God’s spirit is in you and then Bible is wrong, because it speaks about HEAVEN and HELL.Now the question is why we need this anointing.(a) Holy Spirit helps us to live a holy life: John 14:26, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you". Holy Spirit is a good teacher. He keeps on reminding what is the perfect will of God. Many times when we do not understand whether the things which we do is right or not, in these situations Holy Spirit tells us in different-different ways if the thing is not right and helps us to know the right way. (b) Brings peace in the midst of sorrow: When we walk through valley of tears and sorrows, when we spend time at the feet of Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit comes in a special way and brings great comfort. Many times He says, "don’t worry every thing gonna be alright. God will not leave you". When Lord Jesus was about to be crucified, Bible says that He was in great agony. Every time when He said to His disciples "my hour is coming. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; He might have been thinking about His impending death on the Cross. And the Holy Spirit might have kept reminding Him "don’t give up, you came into this world for only this purpose, you have to die for the perishing world". And we see that in the garden of Gethsameny He cried out in great agony, "Father not my will but thy will be done."2. Anointing brings God’s counsel: If you are an anointed person you can hear God’s voice all the time. Every time when you go and ask God for His counsel He is always there to help you Many times I heard people who are having anointing of the Holy Spirit say, "God does not talk to me, I do not receive any type of counseling. Why? Reason is simple, many times we do not receive counsel of God because we do not wait at the feet of God to know His will, or do not take our problems to God. Praying for 10 minutes cannot bring anything into your life. You must know how to spend hours together at His feet. If you are not used to pray, start praying, pray for atleast 1 hour a day and slowly you will know that God speaks to you. Wait at His feet to hear His sweet voice and He will talk to you. Bible says that before going for war, every time King David prayed. He asked God whether he should go or not. Every time when Lord said go, he obeyed and he won the battle. David was a king but he sought God’s counsel every time and he was always victorious. In the same way we must seek His counsel for each and every thing no matter how simple things may be. 3. Stay in anointing till life ends: Finally the most important thing is to stay in anointing. If you are God’s anointed, always stay in that anointing. Somebody said anointing is like a leaking vessel. Every time it leaks out. Every time it has to be charged like battery. Yes you cannot say, "today I am anointed so if I do not pray for 10 years, still anointing will be there". No, you have to pray daily so that you can receive fresh anointing every day. As long as you stay in anointing you will be victorious. As long as you obey God and walk in His ways that anointing will stay with you. May God help you.
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
