Last week a very strong earthquake hit western India – Gujarat, resulting in thousands being buried alive and thousands were injured. When I heard the news first time, the very first thought which came into my mind was, “This is judgment of God”. Why? Because this is the area where Christian Missionaries and Christians were brutally murdered, tortured and persecuted without any mercy. Government did not turn for any help inspite of repeated appeal of Christians and Missionaries.

But when I saw the pictures of devastation of the area, I felt very sorry. I said, “Lord, it may never happen to anybody.” Many lost their loved ones, many lost their hands and legs and many their homes and belongings. They have already got enough tragedy, why we add more by blaming them?

No matter what they did, it is time to forget our differences and pray for them and help them, those who are in terrible need. As a Christian it is our duty to pray for them. Let them turn from their evil ways and look toward the living God. Let this tragedy bring new revival in that area so that it may be a channel of blessing for those who are in tears. Let them find peace, joy and happiness and real meaning of life, which is only possible through Jesus Christ.

If you have any prayer request please feel free to send it to us. We will pray for you.

Wrath of God brought Earth Quake

By Sheela Isaac

When I heard the news of earthquake and massive destruction of about three cities and many surrounding villages, I asked the question “why, why Lord, it should happen to anybody?” You may be asking the same question over and over again.

Bhuj (Gujarat), which had a population of 1,50,000, Anjar which had a population of about 1,00,000 and bachau which had a population of 50,000 were totally destroyed. And many other cities like Ropar, and surrounding villages were totally destroyed. I read in newspaper that two villages totally sank below ground, and in the same way many multistoried buildings also sank below ground level and only the roof of the buildings were visible.

Why this type of destruction should happen? Why these cities experienced such devastation? It looks that the wrath of God was poured on this land. According to Bible this can not be seen as a blessing. When God gets angry He sends destruction. We see from the Bible that such occurrences had happened previously too. The flood at Noah's time and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorah are examples.

Let us see why destruction occurs:

1. When a land forgets God
2. When Iniquity and sin abounds
3. When God’s people/prophets are persecuted

When a land forgets God:
Gen 6:13 And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Gen 7:4 "For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made."

People of the time of Noah were living in sin and they were doing all kinds of iniquities which were not acceptable in the sight of God. So God decided to destroy all the people from the face of the earth and God sent massive flood for forty days and nights and destroyed all the inhabitants of that land.

But God saw that Noah was a perfect man who was walking in all the ways of God. So He saved him from flood and saved his whole family too. Gen 6:9, “……Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.” Gen 7:1, “Then the LORD said to Noah, "Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation.” How great it is that one man’s righteous deed not only saved him but whole family.

People who lived in sin and who forgot God were destroyed. When a nation forgets God, God wipes them away from the face of the earth. When a family forgets God, they experience destruction. When a person forgets God the same person experiences failure and destruction in life. Life becomes desolate and meaningless. Instead of joy, frustration and depression takes hold of that person.

When Iniquity and sin abounds:
Gen 13:13, “But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD.”

What does the Bible say about the people of Sodom and Gomorah?. They were exceedingly wicked and sinful. Now the question is what was their sin? Bible says that they were homosexuals. (Gen 19:4,5). Gen 19:5 And they called to Lot and said to him, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally."

God called those people as wicked and sinful because of their homosexual life style. God does not delight in sin. So His wrath came upon those people. He could not find even ten righteous men in this land and so He destroyed that land with brimstone and fire. Gen 19:24, “Then the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens.

Today US is also in the same situation. Lesbian and gay people are growing. It is very sad that the previous government supported such people. But thank God for His intervention at the right time. He did not destroy US but He selected our new president who opposes gay movement.

My readers, if you are practicing such things repent from your sins. Repent and leave those wicked ways before God’s judgment comes upon you and before He takes a stern step to destroy you.

When God’s people/prophets are persecuted:
Finally God’s wrath comes upon those who persecute His anointed and selected ones. Story of Jezebel is a perfect example. She was a wicked queen. She destroyed God’s prophets and in return she received the severe punishment for her acts.

1 Ki 18:4, “For so it was, while Jezebel massacred the prophets of the LORD…..”

God did not keep quite seeing all these things. Bible says that whoever raised their heel against God’s people they were utterly destroyed. These are the words of God spoken against Jezebel read it. 2 Ki 9:7, “You shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.” He said in 1 Ki 21:23, "And concerning Jezebel the LORD also spoke, saying, 'The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.' 1 Ki 21:24 "The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field."

Whatever God spoke about Jezebel was fulfilled exactly. 2 Ki 9:33 Then he said, "Throw her down." So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot.” 2 Ki 9:34, “And when he had gone in, he ate and drank. Then he said, "Go now, see to this accursed woman, and bury her, for she was a king's daughter." 2 Ki 9:35, “So they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.”

Why did this worst earthquake hit Gujarat?

When I read the stories of pain and suffering I could not hold my tears. Many were left alone having all the other family members being dead. One man lit pyre ( funeral) of 8 members of his family. One person jumped from the high raised building and still survived while his wife and 7 of his family members were dead. Doctors amputated hands and legs of more than 2000-3000 people. They performed operation on more than 20,000 people. Sad stories.

But when you flip the coin. You will find another story of brutal cruelty. This is the same land where Christians were tortured and killed. The same land was the center of intense persecution. If you read those stories your heart will melt. Here are some of them:

Villages of Christian community were burned. They torched many Churches and houses. They killed many pastors. Why? because they were Christians. They cut both the hands of one person. Why? Because he was a believer of Jesus Christ. They collected money (chanda) just to kill Christians. They harassed the people who got saved and who became Christians not allowing them to fetch water from hand pump or from public well. They were insisting on their returning to Hinduism if they wanted water and other house hold things. They entered the houses of Christians to beat them, and their wives and children. Why? Because they were Christians. They caught one pastor and asked him to call Hindu god’s names and say, ‘these are my gods’ and renounce Christ. When he refused to do so, they threatened to cut his throat and sacrifice him before Kali (Hindu goddess). And what else, many pastors including nuns were forced to walk on streets naked by them. Money was flowing from foreign land to kill Christians. The above said stories are not singular instances, but hundreds and thousands were being tortured in various ways. Even now when one Catholic priest went to help the people and rescue them, he was chased out by the Hindu fundamentalists.

In return to what they did, God took vengeance on them. God who punished Jezebel punished these people also.

Yes, my friend, never ever forget God. Never think, “I am too smart I can manage my life. I do not need the help of God.” It is a foolish idea. Today you may be in a very respectable position, today you may have good job, today you may be well settled in life, but remember if you fail to love God and fail to know Him personally, some day any something terrible can happen, you may not know what. The people of Gujarat might never have thought even in their wildest dreams that such destruction could ever happen. But within 40-50 seconds their dreams where shattered. Their joy turned into tears and pain forever.

Now what we have to do? Let us pray for the land of India so that they can know the Lord Jesus who is the only true creator and savior. Let us pray for the broken and destroyed families so that they can recover from this tragedy. Let us pray for the land of India so that it can turn from idolatry and the people could find the true Lord, Jesus Christ who only can give peace, joy and who can save them from sin.

"Let my heart be broken"

By Sherly Isaac

Acts 7:59-60, “And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.”

Stephen, a man who suffered for his faith in Jesus Christ, a man who was filled with the mighty power of God who preached the Gospel with might and power, was accused falsely for his belief and was stoned to death. When he was stoned to death, he prayed, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And God heard his prayer. God touched the young man named saul who was consenting to the death of Stephen and who kept the cloths of those who stoned to death. (Acts 7:58) Same Saul became Paul and shook the whole world with the message of Jesus Christ.

No matter what others do against us but let us pray for them that God may bless their lives and heal their land.

Look at the life of Joseph who was sold by his own brothers to be a slave but when his brothers came to purchase food when their land was going through sevear draught, how he forgave their faults. Genesis 45:4-5, “And Joseph said to his brothers, "Please come near to me." So they came near. Then he said: "I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.”

If he had taken revenge with his brothers, he might have lost his brothers and may be he could never have been able to see his father. Joseph had power to put them in jail and take revenge on what they did in the past, but Joseph forgave his brothers and embraced them and gave them assurance that he will not harm them.

Are we in this position to forgive those who did wrong against us? Are we ready to forget the past and pray for those who are in tears and in need? Let our hearts be broken and let the love of Christ flow from our lives.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
