By Sherly Isaac

A few days back I read an article, "What’s Orthodoxy, Anyway? (or, My Journey To Orthodoxy)" by American convert, Teresa Paprock. In her article she gave reasons for her conversion to Orthodox Syrian Church from protestant Christian Church and she wrote, "In addition, I had a lot of questions about Christianity that had never been answered. Was God really still so angry about Adam and Eve and an apple that He was still sending people to hell thousands of years later? Were we really all born under the curse of Original Sin? Why did God need the sacrifice of His son in order to forgive people?"

When I read this article I thought, "how ignorant are people about the teachings of Bible." First of all, God is not going to punish you for what wrong Adam and Eve committed but He will punish you for the wrong you have done in your life. Second thing, God does not send anybody into hell fire but every person himself/herself is responsible to choose their destination whether it is hell or heaven. God said in Ezek 18:23, "Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?" says the Lord GOD, "and not that he should turn from his ways and live?" Bible also says in Ezek 18:20 "The soul who sins shall die...." Bible is very clear that if we live in sin, we will die, in other words the soul who sins shall go to hell fire but a righteous soul will have eternal life or will go to heaven.

Jesus came to seek and save the lost. He said in Mat 18:11 "For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost." Jesus also said in John 12:47 "And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world." Before Jesus was born, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said in Mat 1:21 "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."

After all who are the lost? Every person who is born in this world is lost. Because of the sin we are separated from God and we cannot approach God with all our sins. None of us can reach God by doing some good works but we all need forgiveness of our sins. That is the reason why Jesus came down in this world to save us from our sins. He gave His precious life for us so that we could come out of our sins and live a holy life.

About two thousand years ago Jesus was born in a manger through virgin Mary. Sinless Son of God the creator of this world became the lamb of God to take away the sins of the world. Today you may be having so many questions about Jesus' birth, about your sins and about hell fire or eternal life but Jesus has all your answers. Come to Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. Repent from your sins and turn to Him. God does not want your conversion from one religion to another but He wants your heart to be converted from your evil ways to His holy ways. May the new born king come into your hearts and bring all the blessings and joy of Christmas in this Christmas season.

Two Babes In A Manger

By Unknown

In 1994, two Americans answered an invitation from the Russian Department of Education to teach in Russia. They were invited to teach at many places including a large orphanage.

About 100 boys and girls who had been abandoned, abused, and left in the care of a government- run program were in the orphanage. The two Americans relate the following story in their own words:

It was nearing the holiday season, 1994, time for our orphans to hear, for the first time, the traditional story of Christmas. We told them about Mary and Joseph arriving in Bethlehem.

Finding no room in the inn, the couple went to a stable, where the Baby Jesus was born and placed in a manger. Throughout the story, the children and orphanage staff sat in amazement as they listened.

Some sat on the edges of their stools, trying to grasp every word.

Completing the story, we gave the children three small pieces of cardboard to make a crude manger. Each child was given a small paper square, cut from yellow napkins I had brought with me. No colored paper was available in the city.

Following instructions, the children tore the paper and carefully laid strips in the manger for straw.

Small squares of flannel, cut from a worn-out nightgown an American lady was throwing away as she left Russia, were used for the baby's blanket. A doll-like baby was cut from tan felt we had brought from the United States.

The orphans were busy assembling their manger as I walked among them to see if they needed any help.

All went well until I got to one table where little Misha sat. He looked to be about 6 years old and had finished his project.

As I looked at the little boy's manger, I was startled to see not one, but two babies in the manger. Quickly, I called for the translator to ask the lad why there were two babies in the manger.

Crossing his arms in front of him and looking at this completed manger scene, the child began to repeat the story very seriously.

For such a young boy, who had only heard the Christmas story once, he related the happenings accurately--until he came to the part where Mary put the Baby Jesus in the manger.

Then Misha started to ad-lib. He made up his own ending to the story as he said, "And when Maria laid the baby in the manger, Jesus looked at me and asked me if I had a place to stay.

I told him I have no mamma and I have no papa, so I don't have any place to stay.

Then Jesus told me I could stay with Him. But I told Him I couldn't, because I didn't have a gift to give Him like everybody else did.

But I wanted to stay with Jesus so much, so I thought about what I had that maybe I could use for a gift. I thought maybe if I kept Him warm, that would be a good gift.

So I asked Jesus, "If I keep You warm, will that be a good enough gift?" And Jesus told me, "If you keep Me warm, that will be the best gift anybody ever gave me."

"So I got into the manger, and then Jesus looked at me and He told me I could stay with Him---for always."

As little Misha finished his story, his eyes brimmed full of tears that splashed down his little cheeks. Putting his hand over his face, his head dropped to the table and his shoulders shook as he sobbed and sobbed.

The little orphan had found Someone who would never abandon nor abuse him, Someone who would stay with him--FOR ALWAYS.

I've learned that it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts.

The Word of the Almighty God

By V. Christopher Suresh

Greetings to you in the great name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praises, Glory and honor to our Almighty God. Halleluiah.

The Almighty God has three books with Him in heaven. The Book of life, The Book of remembrance and the Word of God, which is the Holy Bible. In Psalms 119:89 the Bible says "Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven." So the Almighty God has the original copy of the Holy Bible in the heaven. The word of God is written by the Holy sprit of Almighty God and we are privileged to get a copy of the Holy Bible in our own language. Praise the Lord.

While reading the first chapter of the Gospel of John, verses 1 to 3, the Bible says "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made."

The Word of God is the Lighted Lamp which shines who is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ – Psalms 199:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. The word of God is a lighted lamp to show the path. The lamp shall have oil, which is a source of light. The Word of God has the oil source that is Holy Spirit for the light in abundance. It is a granary, which can never be exhausted. It is not only the availability of oil in abundance, but the lamp should be lighted to shine. It is true the Holy Bible is the treasure. How should you light it. Learn the word of God, meditate it, memorize the words and live a life according to the word. Mathew 5:15 says that "Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand and it gives light to all who are in the house."

In John 8:12, "Then Jesus spoke to them again saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life." The Word of God called Lord and Savior Jesus Christ shines the light. He died for the salvation of mankind and individually invite each one of us to come to His light. In John 1:4&5 the Bible says "In Him was life and the life was the light of men, and the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it" and in verse 9 "That was the true light which gives light to every man who comes into the world"

The acts of darkness such as evils, corruption, dangers, robbery, diseases, destruction, poverty, cheating, adultery etc are in the world we live. Attention, dear brothers and sisters, uphold the lighted lamp of the word of God, no darkness or acts of darkness shall touch you. Do not try to live even a second, with out the word of God, the satan is keen to snatch you. If you don’t have the light, you cannot distinguish the darkness and you will live with the acts darkness. Now realize, Are you reading the word of God daily in the morning and evening. Are you memorizing at least one verse on a weekly basis. Are you listening to the word of God from the church and Gospel meetings.

The word of God is the food to live – Deuteronomy 8:3

"……man shall not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord."

Lord and savior Jesus Christ quoted the same word of God in Mathew 4:4 and Luke 4:4, when He was tempted by satan.

Here we should understand the importance of the word of God. How much preference we are giving to the word of God comparative to our food. Our father and savior Jesus Christ gives utmost priority to the word of God. In Matthew 6:31 He says "Therefore do not worry, saying What shall we eat, or what shall we drink or what shall we wear. For after all these things the gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you."

Food will be provided on time by our Almighty God, if we give priority to the word of God. When the prophet Elijah was sitting in a place where there was no chance of getting food, our Almighty God fed him, with non-vegetarian foods. The crows brought him bread and meat for his food. In another instance, Mary is hearing the word of God sitting at the feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Martha was in the food preparation to serve the Lord. But Lord Jesus Christ said about Mary in Luke 10:42 "But one thing is needed and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

The word of God gives the bread of life, which is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us read the verses following verses

John 6:32 & 33 "Then Jesus said to them most assuredly I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

John 6:35 "And Jesus said to them “I am the bread of life, He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."

John 6:48-51 "I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any one eats of this bread he will live forever and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."

The body of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was broken for our sickness and sorrows. And by His stripes we are healed. He told us to participate in the Holy communion and remember His suffering for us. The Bread of Jesus Christ gives us the eternal life. Those who eats the bread of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from the word of God shall live with Him forever. Our lives are not going to end by our death, just we are crossing the death bridge to be with our Lord for ever and ever.

In 1 Peter 2:2 bible says "As new born babes desire the pure milk of the word that you may grow." The word of God consists of the light food like milk as we are babes in Christ.

According to Hebrews 5:12-14, The word of God consists of solid food too, to strengthen us and be teachers of the word. So let us not remain as children drinking milk products such as easy verses Psalms 23 repeatedly. We should grow in the knowledge of the word of God by taking the mountain moving faith solid foods from the Bible. Our Lord will be happy at the growth in the knowledge of the word of God.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good – Psalms 34:8.

The word of God is the sword of the spirit – Ephesians 6:17

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the sprit which is the word of God"

In Ephesians 6:11 Bible says "Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil"

While living in this world, we have fight with the powers of darkness. If we read in Ephesians 6:12, the Bible says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of the age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." How to overcome this great opposition in our Christian lives. Our Lord and savior Jesus Christ has given weapons to protect us in Ephesians 6:13-17.

Let us read the full verses of Ephesians 6:13-17 –"Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breast plate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the sprit which is the word of God."

The above set of the armor of God such as Truth, Righteousness, Gospel of peace, shield of faith and helmet of salvation are all defensive. All those equipments protect us from the attack of the enemy satan. But God has given us one more weapon which is offensive, that is the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. The Word of God is a sword which can be used as a defensive weapon as well as a offensive weapon to attack and drive away the enemy satan. I have seen Christians who are uttering attacks of satan always. Brother and sister, use the word of God sword to attack in return and drive satan away. The Bible says in James 4:7 "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." Unless, you have the word of God sword with you to attack satan, you cannot resist him and drive him.

The word of God is a sharpened two edged sword. In Hebrews 4:12 the Bible says "For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword ….." So if we have this powerful weapon of the word of God in our hands ready, the enemy satan will never come near us. The holy people of God shall always have this two-edged sword in their hand. Psalms 149:6 says "Let the praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand." I would like to bring this to the attention of Christians who are ashamed of carrying the Holy bible even to the church service. Every Christian should carry this Holy Bible at all times, when they go out. Now the Bible is simplified to a pocket diary size for every body’s convenience to carry.

The word of God is a two edged sword. The sword can be used for productive purposes such as cutting wood and also for attacking and destroying enemies. It means that the word of God has both the sides of blessings and curses. The word of God has both the sides of Promises and Judgments. The one side Blessings and Promises are for children of God who have accepted Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as their personal savior. The other side Curses and Judgment are to the wicked, who are the followers of satan. The Bible says in Psalms 7:11&12 – "God is a just judge And God is angry with the wicked every day. If he does not turn back, He will sharpen His sword." For example Deuteronomy, Chapter 28 consists of the two-edged sword word of God. It consists of Blessings from verses 1 to 14 and this is for the persons who obey the voice of the Lord and observe carefully all His commandments. But Verses 15 to 68 are curses and it applies to persons who does not obey the voice of the Lord. In Revelation 1:16 says the two edged sword went out of the mouth of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. And in Revelation 2:16, He warns "Repent or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth."

We have discussed only three facts of the word of God, but it is definitely more than that. The word of God is a seed fallen on a good land, Luke 8:11,8 & 15, The word of God is a healing medicine, Psalms 107:20. Faith comes by hearing the word of God, Romans 10:17 and so on.

Let me conclude by a story

An aged widowed mother had a young son. The mother was teaching the importance of the word of God and the young guy never listened. But the mother was fervently praying for the boy to turn and obey the word of God. The young boy was selected for the Army and told to join the army camp. The mother gave him a Holy Bible and told him to read the Bible and pray to the Lord every day morning and evening. The boy took the Bible and safely kept in his baggage and left for the Army camp. He never bothered to take the Bible from the baggage to read and pray. War was declared by the country with the neighboring country. On a certain day, the soldiers of the Army camp were ordered to fight the enemy at the border battle field. This young boy was selected to be a front line soldier to fight the enemy. The young boy was very much scared and the Holy Bible that his mother gave him came to his memory. The boy took the bible and read it and prayed for the first time. He kept the Bible inside the jacket facing his chest and went to the battle field. Fierce fighting was going on with the enemy. Suddenly, He was shot by the enemy soldiers and he fell down on the ground. He did not know what happened for a long time. The battle moved to another border area and this area became silent. The young boy came into consciousness and looked at both sides and found all his friends soldiers of the camp are shot dead. He didn’t feel any injury but he can remember that a bullet struck him and he fell down. So he checked his jacket and found that it was true and he searched and found the Holy Bible, that he kept in the jacket has been damaged. The bullet had not crossed the Holy Bible to enter his body. He got surprised and praised God. Any way, he want to check how far the bullet entered the Bible pages. The bullet reached the page and stopped on the verse Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper”.

Let us pray:

Dear Heavenly father, we thank you for your word to us. We praise you for the Holy Bible. Lord, Your word is the lighted lamp to us, we live by your word and your word is a two-edged sword. Thank you Lord and savior Jesus Christ, we praise You, glorify You and honor You. Grant us the daily light from the word of God to shine our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the world of darkness. Grant us the daily bread from the word of God and to be strengthened in our spiritual life. Protect us by the word of God, which is a two edged sword. All praises, glory, honor to the Almighty God. Halleluiah. In the great name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we pray to our Holy Heavenly Father AMEN
