And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.(Mat 2:11)"

Bible tells us that at the time of Jesus' birth wise men came searching the newborn king. They worshipped Him and presented gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to Him. Gold the precious metal was perfect gift for royal prince. It was representing his eternal and glorious kingship. The King of kings and Lord of lords, the Creator of the world who owns all the gold and silver mines, left His heavenly abode and born in a poor carpenter's family. Apostle Paul tells us the reason of His becoming poor in 2 Cor 8:9, "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."

After all what Paul was talking in this verse? For more clarity read the statement of Jesus written in Rev 3:17-18, "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'; and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked; I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see."

Jesus came to give us abundant life which is free from wretchedness, misery, poverty, blindness and nakedness. The very purpose Jesus came in this world is that He could deliver us from our sins and all the burdens, pains and sorrows. He came to cloth us with the garment of righteousness so that we could walk before others in dignity. He came to fill us with joy and peace that world cannot give.

Second gift was Frankincense. Old Testament talks about the importance of frankincense and other sweet smelling aromas offered in the sacrifices. Frankincense was one of the main ingredients in the grain offering. We read in Lev 2:1-2, "When anyone offers a grain offering to the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour. And he shall pour oil on it, and put frankincense on it. He shall bring it to Aaron's sons, the priests, one of whom shall take from it his handful of fine flour and oil with all the frankincense. And the priest shall burn it as a memorial on the altar, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the LORD." Jesus who claimed Himself as "I am the bread of life" came in this world to become a sacrifice for dying humanity. He gave His precious life so that the fragrance and sweet smelling aroma could arise and it could please the almighty God. His sacrifice was for you, for me and for all of us so that the stench of sin could be removed from our lives and the fragrance of Him could fill in our lives.

Third gift was Myrrh. The word myrrh came from the Hebrew word mar, meaning "bitter". Myrrh was used in embalming that represented the bitter death of Jesus Christ. And the bitterness of heart that comes through death of a loved ones. Jesus took all our bitterness, the pain of death and sorrows of hell on the cruel cross so that we could have eternal life and the joy unspeakable.

All these gifts proclaimed, what kind of child Jesus would be when He grows up. In this Christmas I want to tell you that God gave the greatest gift of all times to humankind by giving His only Son to die for us. "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?( Rom 8:32)"

The Song of Mary

By Sherly Isaac

Mary the mother of Jesus rejoicing greatly. She glorifies and praises God for the mighty deeds He did in her life. The Gospel of Luke 1st chapter of 46 to 56 verses tells us that how her heart was bubbling with great joy.
And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel, In remembrance of His mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever."

She was grateful to God her Savior who regarded the lowly state of hers. We do not know whether she came from a wealthy family or not but she was betrothed to a poor carpenter. According to the Luke's Gospel when Mary and Joseph brought Jesus into temple they also came to offer a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. We read in Luke 2:22-24, "Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the LORD"), and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons."

"A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons" is the offering prescribed for the poor in connection with the religious purification of a new mother (Lev. 12:1-8). Mary herself declares in her song that God exalts the lowly and fills the hungry with good things."

In fact God does not look at the outward appearance but He looks straight to the hearts of people. He showers His great mercy on those who fear Him. You may be rich, you may be poor, you may be living in big mansion or small hut but if you fear God, His mercy and goodness will follow in all the days of your life.

Mary was rejoicing because the Savior of the world was about to be born in her family. When the Savior comes and takes birth in one's heart, there would be celebrations, rejoicing, joy bubbles out of the heart and praising God. We read in Luke 15:7 "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance." When Jesus comes in your life, in your family and in your home there is unspeakable joy, peace and happiness that comes with Him.

Jesus said in Rev 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." He is knocking at the door of your heart. Will you hear His voice and open the doors for Him so that He could come in and dine with you? Will you not be happy to have the Creator dining with you in the same table? May you be blessed having Jesus with you in this Christmas and throughout your life.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
