Bible tells us about the importance of faith in Christ. The 11th chapter in the book of Hebrew talks about ordinary people who achieved great things by faith in God. Though they were ordinary people just like you and me yet they did extraordinary things by faith. When we read further the same chapter summarizes their extraordinary achievements in Heb 11:32-35, "And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again. And others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection."

David was hardly 16 years old. One day his father Jesse called him and told him to take food for his brothers who were in the army of Saul. When David Arrived at the camp and when he was talking to his brothers, he saw the Goliath a giant coming up and defying Israelites. "All the men of Israel, when they saw Goliath, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid.(1 Sam 17:24)" Goliath was blaspheming God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and when David heard those blasphemies he could not tolerate it and thought how he could remove that reproach from Israel. We read in 1 Sam 17:26, "Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?"

Saul the king of Israel heard about David and he called David. When David stood before Saul he said to the king in 1 Sam 17:32, "Let no man's heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine." But Saul said in 1 Sam 17:33, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."

Seeing David, Saul the king's experienced eyes could understand that David was not fit to take down that giant and he was not able to win the battle. But what made that young man to stand before the king and boldly declare his agenda of defeating Goliath? What made that young man to believe that he is able to win a victory over that giant? That was nothing but his faith in living God in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Next four verses talks about confident young man's complete battle plan.

We read in 1 Sam 17:34-37, But David said to Saul, "Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God." Moreover David said, "The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." And Saul said to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you!"

And we all know the story of David that how he won the battle with just one stone of his sling.

How David had this big faith? Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." When we constantly hear from the Word of God, it builds up faith. Not watered down, diluted, corrupted word but the word which comes directly from the mouth of God.

Today, God is not looking for expertise and great skills but He is looking for men and women who could really hear from Him and speak the Word of His mouth. God is looking for people who could touch His heart and bring heavenly messages and heavenly solutions from the very throne of God. God is looking for people who could stand before those giants and uproot them, who are bringing reproach on living God and defying the army of living God. God is not looking big theologians or skilled workers but He is looking for people who could obey Him and walk in His ways.

People might have thought that you cannot stand before giants or you are not fit to take down giants but by faith in Christ, you can achieve victory. There is a God who is able to make you victorious just like He made David victorious.

God's Divine Provision and Protection

By Sherly Isaac

Ten days back there was bombing of a Shiite mosque in Iraq that erupted of sectarian violence. Many are dead yet no sign of peace. When I saw the news on TV, my memory went back to the similar incident that took place in India on 6th Dec. 1992 when Babri mosque was demolished in Ayodhya, India. Whole India rocked with great uproar specially in northarn parts of India. The violance continued for more than one month so did the curfew in many cities and states. At one point Govt. ordered shoot at sight and horrible things happened in our city. Just one block away from our home, trucks and shops were put on fire. In nearby temple there was gun battle for hours between police and miscreants. homes were looted, many were killed and even in some places whole families were draged out of their homes and were burnt alive. When these things were continuosly coming in the news, it filled great terror and uneasyness in our hearts. But what a mighty God we have who protects His children from all danger and harm.

We do not know why, whether it was because of much violance in our area or because of some top officials and Govt. ministers were living in that area, police protection was provided in our street. Police guards would come and sit at the corner of main street every day and every night that was just yards away from our home. The police guards stayed until the violance was not over. What a relief it was for us. It seemed to us as if God Himself provided protection for us. Because of police guards, our street was excluded from crime and violance.

When there was violance for more than one month, nobody could come out of their houses. Shops were closed and there was no food in the markets. But in the beginning of the month, my mom gave money to my brother and said, "because Christmas is coming, bring some extra groceary so that we may not have to go in the middle of the month again." So my brother purchased grocery for more than one month, not knowing what was coming just two-three days later. Because of that we could manged without going hungry.

There is a God who cares for His children who walk in His ways. You may be in the midst of violance and great horror but the same God who protected us can protect you from all harm. He will provide you without fail. Elijah stood before king Ahab and told about the coming famine in that land in 1 Ki 17:1, 'And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word." Further we read in 1 Ki 17:2-7 Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there." So he went and did according to the word of the LORD, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook."

You can see that how miraculously God provided Elijah though the whole land was under famine. Ones someone said, "from where the ravens got the meat and bread when the whole land had severe famine?", it would have been from nowhere but from the very kitchen of King Ahab and Queen Jazebeel. I do not know whether it is true or not but the bottom line is God did not allow Elijah to die in the brook but He provided him divinely. The same God is still able to provide you and protect you from all evil. God will not allow you to die in the wilderness. Let not your heart be troubled, just trust in Him.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
