Cricket match is very popular in India. It becomes more interesting when India plays with Pakistan. There were times when we give up our sleep even in cold winter nights just to watch cricket match almost the whole night. I remember that once there was a one-day match between India and Pakistan. The first turn for batting was of Pakistan and they scored very high score. In the afternoon India started batting but within a short time three or four top batsmen were out and they went back to pavilion. Chances of winning that match was almost impossible. It was such a dull and frustrating match that I was almost ready to turn off the TV and leave. Then one young batsman namely Sachin Tendulkar started batting. While he was on the ground trying to settle down, he saw few more of his playmates returning back to pavilion scoring very few runs. But it did not bring any frustration over this young man. He was well aware that if he wanted to win, he must do something special. He started playing aggressively hitting every ball which came on his way while the other side players were returning to pavilion one by one. He started scoring in fours and sixes. Still mounting score was there and very few balls were left to play. It was so evident that India was going to lose the match. The situation was such to do or die. In the remaining six balls there was a possibility of making maximum thirty-six runs. We held our breath as we watched the game. And to everyone's surprise in the last remaining six balls, he could manage to score in fours and sixes more than the score of the Pakistan team. Finally India won that match. I could still feel the thrill of that match after these many years.The game was completely messed up because many of the players could not play well in the beginning. Shadows of failure hovered over their heads, but when one young man stepped in, that messed up situation started shifting and the whole atmosphere changed. When that young person stepped into that hopeless situation the impending failure turned into victory.In the same way when Jesus steps in our messed up lives in the midst of our failures, in the midst of our defeats, the whole situation changes. Our failures turn in to victory and triumph. Our misery turns into blessing. As the psalmist says in Psa 30:11-12, "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever."The same God who turned the mourning of the psalmist into dancing can turn our mourning into dancing. The same God who put off the sackcloth of the psalmist into gladness can turn our situation around. I was reading about the tragic death of a young lady's grandmother and mother who were trying to save that lady. It happened in Canada when a man broke into the house of the young Indian lady who lived with her mother and grandmother. A violent fight broke out there. The young lady ran outside of her house to find help from neighbors but none opened the door. Finally when police arrived they found that both her mother and her grandmother were dead. When I read this story, I thought how evil and how cruel the world we live in is. This is a tragedy beyond anybody's comprehension. They came home from church at midnight and it would never have crossed their minds that within six hours their lives would take such a drastic turn. So fragile are our lives that we just cannot know what will happen next. But in the midst of tragedies and troubles, God wants us to triumph in our lives. He has a plan for each and every one of us. If we give our lives in the mighty hands of Jesus, He will take care of our troubles and He will turn it into victory.Are you going through heartbreaks, failures, tears and sorrows? There is a God who really wants to wipe away your tears and wants to fill your hearts with great joy and peace that this world cannot give. For the very purpose He came in this world and died so that we could have a better future. Just allow Him to step into your life. He will turn around your situation.
Whenever birthday comes, people wish long life. A few days back I was watching TV News in which they showed an old woman who just turned to one hundred and ninth year of her life. She was in good health. They tried to ask her of the secret of her long life and good health. But life itself is a mystery to scientists. They do not know why some live longer than others and why some people die early. One expert said that a day would come when scientists will be able to unlock the mystery of long life. In one another studies, scientists have found that human being could live to a maximum of one hundred and twenty years of age. Recently, scientists believe that they have discovered what causes this cell division process to halt around the age of one hundred and twenty years. They believe that it is caused by what they call telomeres. This they believe is the key to the human life cycle. Telomeres are repeating DNA strings (TTAGGG) that cap chromosomes. Each time a cell divides its telomeres become shorter. When they reach a preset length the cell ceases to divide, ages, and dies.In the Bible we read exactly that the same number is the maximum age of human beings. "And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years." (Genesis 6:3)Though the maximum life span is one hundred and twenty years, very few reach to this age. Bible tells us how we can extend the days of our lives. Psa 91:16, "With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation." If we read the few verses above, it says in Psa 91:14-15, "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him."Bible again and again speaks about walking in the ways of God which adds blessings and long life. In Prov 3:1-2 we read, "My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you."One of the reasons that lead to long life is that of loving God with all our hearts and knowing Him personally. In the 14th verse Bible says that the psalmist has put his love upon God, God is going to give him long life. Not all sicknesses come because of sin but sin is one of the reasons for many sicknesses, misery and troubles in our lives. But when we turn from our sins and give our lives to Jesus, His abundant life flows through our body, spirit and soul. Jesus paid the price on the cross not only for our sins but also for our sicknesses, misery, pain and troubles. He came in this world to give us life - a life full of joy, peace and happiness. Today He is ready to give us that life. His life giving life is available for us.
