When I watched the bone chilling news of beheadings on TV it made me very sad and I thought that, why it should happen to anybody? Why should they be kidnapped by masked men and why should sword be placed on their heads? Why they should die like that?But there is another aspect of this story. There is another type of horrible death which is spiritual death. It started in the Garden of Eden. Long ago our first parents Adam and Eve sinned against God and because of their disobedience they lost everything. Enemy snatched away the freedom they had in their lives and put them in captivity. They became slaves of devil, evil and sin. Their children who were born to them were already in captivity. Since that day whoever are born in this world, are born in captivity. How many of us know that each and every human being born in this world is in prison and the enemy is standing with sword over their head to kill them and destroy them. I think many are not even aware of the danger they are in. When God saw us in this pathetic condition, He made up His mind to do something to redeem His own property out of the hands of the devil. Bible tells us that we cannot save ourselves by any means. We read, "Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him; For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever; That he should continue to live eternally, And not see the Pit" (Psa 49:6-9). Our wealth, our money, our riches cannot save us from hell fire and from the captivity of sin. That is the reason why God gave His solution. Bible says in Isa 61:1, "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound..."We read in the New Testament that God sent His only Son to die for us. Jesus came in this world and took all our sins on Himself and shed His precious blood on the cruel cross so that we could be liberated from our sins and that we could inherit eternal life. He paid the price in full and gave His life a ransom. There is no other way to bring us to freedom out of captivity. There is no escape but we are trapped, we are in prison. We cannot escape except through Jesus' blood that was shed on the cruel cross. Today we can get freedom from our captivity and live an abundant life because Jesus paid the price for our freedom. My dear friend, why should you die in captivity when someone has already paid the price for your liberation? Why should you live in prison when you can come out and live nicely? Come to Jesus and surrender your life to Jesus. He will forgive and forget all your sins and give you a new life.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."How great is the love of God that we cannot even imagine. Why He loved us so much, I have no clue! But He loved us greatly. All through history as described in the Bible we see the rebellion of mankind against God and the longing of God toward the people to draw them near to Him to love them and to bless them. After Adam and Eve rebelled and fell from grace, God made an everlasting covenant with Abraham as we read in Gen 17:6-8, "I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." God made an everlasting covenant with a man and his generations because He saw faithfulness in Abraham. But that covenant could not last long because the people did not walk in the ways of God. They sinned against God and broke the covenant between them and God. Jeremiah writes in Jer 3:19-20, "But I said: 'How can I put you among the children And give you a pleasant land, A beautiful heritage of the hosts of nations?' "And I said: 'You shall call Me, "My Father," And not turn away from Me. Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, So have you dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel," says the LORD."Further we read in Jer 31:32-33, "not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."We can see how badly people behaved with God though He was a husband and a father to them, yet they denied to walk in His ways. They purposely chose to deny His blessings and goodness. They purposely chose to worship other gods and showed their backs to the living God. When Jeremiah explained to the Israelites (Jeremiah 44th chapter) that because of their wickedness and because their father's wickedness, because they burnt incense before other gods and provoked God all the calamities came on them, the answer of the Israelites was stunning as we read in Jer 44:18, "But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine." Though the people were extremely evil yet God loved them so much that He sent His prophets to them so that they could turn from their evil ways. We read in Jer 44:4-5, 'However I have sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, "Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate! But they did not listen or incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods."And this pattern of rebellion continued all these years and is still continuing. Till a few years back I had no idea that even many who call themselves to be "Christians" who are regular Church goers practice witch craft, go to astrologers to know their future, worship idols and other gods also. Our attitude toward God has been, "hey, who are you, I do not need you... I am over smart and I am capable of doing anything...." We spit on the face of God and yet we are not ashamed of ourselves. Though we have rejected Him openly, though we insult Him openly, though we rebel against Him openly yet He loves us. He just wants us to be back in His mighty arms. Do you see His great love for you? He is calling you today with open arms saying, "just return to Me and I will be your God and you will be my people." Will you hear His beautiful, loving voice and repent from your sins? Come to Him, He is ready to embrace you, forgive you and bless you.
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
