By Sherly Isaac

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16-18)."

God's love was so great for the dying humanity that He gave His only precious Son to die for us so that we could live forever with Him in peace. What He saw in the worthless human beings that He spared them from destroying? The creator could have destroyed Adam and Eve at the time when they sinned against Him, but instead of doing that He showed His great love towards us, sending His Son to die for us. There is no other reason except the love that made Him to come down and give His life for us. Though we did crime against Him, yet He loved us, took our place on the cross and did everything so that we could come out of our sin and live a holy life.

Once I read a heart rending true story. I read this story long back so I have hard time recalling exact details. There was a Christian missionary whose whole family was greatly devoted to Jesus Christ. His two teenager sons studied in high school. At that time communism was in rise and Christians were being persecuted. One day both of his sons went to school and one group of students stood up and at gun point they demanded to renounce their Christian faith. Both were firm in their belief on Christ. They simply denied to renounce their faith. They were repeatedly given option of life if they renounced their faith in Christ. But when those students saw that they were not ready to renounce their faith, they finally shot them to death.

When the death of their son's news reached their parents they were devastated. They could not believe at first but comforted themselves in the Lord. Few months later the culprit was in custody. Parents were informed about the man who killed their sons. Through the witness of the missionary the murderer repented and came to salvation experience. The missionary went and met with some officials and said that he and his wife wanted to forgive him and wanted to adopt him as their own son. It was a very strange thing for the judiciary but after much persuasion and after much pressure on officials they were ready to give him for adoption. The day came when the boy who murdered missionary's two sons, was about to come to the missionary's house to live with them. The missionary's wife was washing cloths when she heard that the boy had arrived. When she heard that, she fainted with the very thought that murderer boy will live with them. But the boy came and lived with them. They arranged everything necessary for his studies and took care of him as their own son.

The missionary and his wife had no need to take care of a young man who killed their sons but they loved the Lord so much that they not only forgave him but also tried everything to make him free from jail and provided for him and took care of him.

Jesus did the same thing for us. Though we have committed crime against Him yet He loved us and He did everything so that we could get forgiveness of our sins and have eternal life. He shed His precious blood for us so that we could never live as slaves and in sin but get complete freedom from our sins. If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior then today is the time. Confess your sins to Christ and take His forgiveness in your life.

Fragrance of Christ

By Sherly Isaac

Paul writes in 2 Cor 2:14-15, "Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing."

He declares himself to be the fragrance of Christ and he says that God used him to diffuse that wonderful fragrance. To become the fragrance of Christ is not an easy thing. Just like when fragrance is made they extract oil from many different ingredients. To extract oil they pound it repeatedly, crush it and process it then they mix those oils and it gives beautiful fragrance. If you want that the fragrance of Christ should spread through you, it is necessary that you must be crushed. Unless you are crushed the fragrance of Christ cannot come out of you. But this crushing process is very hard, it is not an easy thing. That is the reason why in Mat 16:24-25 Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."

Following Christ is not the way of roses but the way of cross. Every believer who ever wanted to walk in the foot steps of Christ was persecuted. History is witness that many suffered greatly and many gave their lives for Christ. There are many ways through which persecution comes in the lives of believers. Sometimes sicknesses bothers them, sometimes financial crisis, sometimes joblessness, sometimes death of a loved one, sometimes heartbreaking experiences, sometimes through enemies, sometimes because some do witchcraft against them and so on. There are many reasons why it happens. Sometimes it comes to correct you and put you back in the right path. Sometimes it comes to mold you according to the will of God and sometimes it comes to teach you some great lessons of spiritual life.

1. Sometimes persecution comes to correct us:
David says in Psa 23:1-3, "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. "He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake."

David compares the Lord as his shepherd. When shepherd takes his sheep along the wilderness he makes sure that his sheep is fed well and have water to drink and have a safe place. But when sheep looses its her way or goes astray from the flock, he uses his rod or staff to bring it back. In the same way when a person who is saved but drifts away from the ways of God, God uses His rod of persecution to bring him back to the right track. That is the reason why every believer needs to check his/her life when persecution comes.

2. Sometimes persecution comes to mold us:
Sometimes persecution comes to polish or shine and mold us. In Isa 48:10 God says, "Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction." Oh, sometimes He puts us in furnace of affliction not to torture us but to mold us.

Once I heard about John Wesley whom God used mightily for His glory. He was married to a woman who did not like him preaching. Whenever John Wesley was programmed to preach the Gospel, his wife would go at least two days prior to the venue of his meetings and she would hand out handbills which would list all the criticisms about him. When he comes back after preaching, she would say the most harsh words about him. He had this type of life, but people believe that his messages became more powerful after marriage. Why? Because of the pain and sufferings he went through.

When we go through pain and suffering, we can understand other's problems. Those who never went through pain cannot understand the pain of others. Those who never got sick, cannot understand the sufferings of those who suffer because of sicknesses. Those who never went through financial crisis cannot understand the problem of others who are going through poverty. But when you experience the bitterness of this life, you can understand others pain. That's why God sometimes allows you to go through very bitter experiences.

3. Sometimes persecution comes to teach us great lessons:
I remember how God taught us various great lessons in our lives. Once my brother was very sick. After having taken food from one's place, he started vomiting. Doctors could not understand what happened to him. His condition was deteriorating day by day. For many months he could not eat properly and because of that he lost many pounds of weight and he became very thin. One evening I was watching him sitting beside his bed. He was in excruciating pain. And a thought came in my mind. I and my sister both are unmarried and we have old parents to look after. If my brother dies, who will take care of us? When I thought all these thing, a great fear came in my heart. I started praying, "Lord, if you really want to take him home, please do a favor to me.. please take me home instead of him. Let him live, please take me instead of him... and I pleaded with God. At that point God reminded me the promises He gave for my brother and for us for ministry and for our lives. At that time he felt somewhat relieved from his pain but there was not much difference in his condition. A few weeks later all of a sudden unexpectedly we got a call from Dr. Paul Dhinakaran an evangelist from India who prayed over phone for his healing. What a miracle, he started recovering and God healed him completely.

But we learned our lessons. Every time when food is served before us, we pray to God to show us which one is eatable and which one is not and whether we had to eat at all from that particular place or not?

Yes, every believer has to go through trials and tribulations in his/her life but on trusting God we can become triumphant and at the end He will make us a sweet smelling fragrance that will spread the aroma of Christ.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
