As a young engineer my dad joined Indian Railways. At that time he was drawing good salary and also had great benefits like having free first class railway pass to travel anywhere, family vacation once in a year in the expense of Indian Railways and first class traveling pass. My dad was happy with his job. But soon he got an offer from State Government. When he compared the benefits of Indian Railways and State Govt. job, he realized that State Govt. was offering many other benefits and higher salary than Indian Railways. So he left the Indian Railways job and joined the State Govt. Job. After joining he realized that his decision was a mistake. He found out that it was a safe haven for those who wanted to earn illegal money. Though he was not saved, he did stick to his principles of integrity and honesty. He always said that taking and giving bribe is wrong. He quoted Proverbs 11:1 that says, "Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight." The first lesson he taught us was the lesson of integrity and not to cheat others. When other co-workers of him were making millions of rupees (Indian currency) cheating contractors, poor farmers and others, by piling up the files untill they give bribe, he delighted to sign those piled up files without taking bribe. He was glad seeing those farmers and contractors rejoicing when he did not take any money to sign their papers. "How anybody could ever make them go round and round and not sign the papers just for money", he often said. Because of his integrity, he suffered a lot. He was not given proper promotions and was given compulsory retirement. Very often he regretted his bad choice and said, if only he had known what was best for him, he would have not left the Indian Railway’s job. How many times we regret for our wrong choices and wrong decisions. But Bible tells us that God wants to lead us and guide us in right direction. God said in Psa 32:8, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye." And also in Isa 58:11, "The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail."The same God led Israelites all the days of their lives and guided them. He made them to posses the Promised Land. Today also the same God wants to bless us, lead us and guide us in the way we should go. He alone can show us the right way. He alone can tell us which one would be the best choice for us. You may be in the middle of major decision of your life, if you look to Jesus, He can guide you in right direction. You may ask, whom God will guide? The answer is, God will guide His children those who know Him personally.If you want to know Him personally please pray this prayer with me: Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. Please forgive and forget all my sins and cleanse me with your precious blood. Guide me, lead me and show me the right way. Let me walk in all truth. Thank you for listening my prayers. I give you all the glory and honor. I pray in Jesus name, Amen!We wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year 2006! May the good Lord Jesus Christ guide us and lead us in His own way and show us His great mercy in this new year.
Book of Mathew starts with a sentence "The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham" and it goes on giving the genealogy. Many a times we tend to skip and think, “that's not important”. But God doesn't do a mistake. If those genealogies are there it is with a purpose.Few days back when I was reading the genealogy and it struck me that it represents the faithfulness of God almighty. Ancestry of Jesus starts with Abraham begot Isaac. I paused and thought, "Wait a minute". Abraham received a promise and he never could imagine that the promise can be fulfilled. Gen 12:1-3 says Lord told Abraham to get out of his country and go to a strange land. Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you.Gen 12:2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.Gen 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."A list of blessings follows.a.) I will make you a great nationb.) I will bless youc.) Make your name greatd.) You shall be a blessinge.) Those who bless you will be blessed and those who curse will be cursedf.) In you all the families of the earth shall be blessedFurther we read in Gen 12:7 that Lord appeared and said to him "To your descendants I will give this land" Gen 12:7 Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land." And there he built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him.But there is a problem. Abraham could have said "Lord you know that I don't have a child and I don't see how I am going to get one. Medically it is impossible and here now you are saying that my descendants will get the land. From where will these descendants are going to come?"Yep, great promises but nothing looks to be practical. But Abraham followed the instructions. He left his country and went to a totally strange land. Probably waiting every single day thinking that Lord will fulfill his promise probably this week or probably this month or probably this year. Waiting and waiting but nothing seems to look like working. Probably Abraham's frustration began to grow. God spoke to him few times again and He spoke the same things, your descendants will be this, your descendants will be that. Oh yes Lord but where are the descendants? I don't see them anywhere and when I don't see them why you want to talk about them anyway? Well Abraham asked almost similar question when it comes to Gen 15th chapter.It was Gen 15:1 and God was again speaking to Abraham, same things I the Lord is your shield and your exceedingly great reward and the frustration of Abraham is clearly visible in verse 2 and 3. He says what are you going to give me or if we speak in other words he is saying "what profit I have with every thing that you are saying you will give when I don't have a child". Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."Gen 15:2 But Abram said, "Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?"Gen 15:3 Then Abram said, "Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!"Well years passed by and probably it will surprise you that how many of those years were. When God called Abraham to get out of his country he was 75 years old and when the promise's fulfillment time came Abraham was 100 years old.Gen 21:5 Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.25 years of waiting to see the promised descendant in flesh. God was speaking all about somebody from 25 long years, about a person who did not exist in the life of Abraham. God was continuously speaking about something that wasn't there. And not only it was the promise to Abraham but it was promise for whole mankind that a descendant of Abraham will be the savior of the whole world. Those 25 years of hardship and travailing were pointing to one and only one person the Lord Jesus Christ. Today many have problem believing that Jesus Christ even walked on the face of the earth. Many theologians think that Bible is not the Word of God instead it is just a book written with bias of human beings. In other words it is just a book coming from human wisdom. But Genealogy presents some of the most irrefutable proofs that from Abraham till Jesus every thing that happened was God's mighty hand working with mighty power and glory.It is highly impossible for a book like Bible to written with bias and still be 100% accurate in it's prophecies. Human mind can never predict prophecies of events that are going to happen thousands of years ago. The fulfillment of prophecies in Jesus is a remarkable proof of Bible being word of God.Has God spoken to you? Has he given you a promise that looks impossible? I want to tell you God will not fail to fulfill that promise for He is a promise fulfilling God. May the Lord bring the promises that he has given to you to come to pass this very year.
Isa 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.In the above verse Isaiah described the qualities of the Messiah. He said that one of His names would be, "Counselor". Every King or President has many wise counselors in the kingdom or nation. These counselors give counseling and on that basis King or President takes a decision. Counseling is important but how you could get a good counsel? Bible tells us about David - a man of God who always asked God, what to do in different situations. We read in 1 Sam 23:1-2, "Then they told David, saying, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are robbing the threshing floors." Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And the LORD said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah."Further we read in 1 Sam 23:3-4, "But David's men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?" Then David inquired of the LORD once again. And the LORD answered him and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah. For I will deliver the Philistines into your hand."David inquired and took counsel of God instead of relying on his own wisdom or his men's wisdom. And he was successful as we read in 1 Sam 23:5, "And David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines, struck them with a mighty blow, and took away their livestock. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah."Again we read that David was in a different situation and he asked God what to do. 1 Sam 23:7-8 says, And Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah. So Saul said, "God has delivered him into my hand, for he has shut himself in by entering a town that has gates and bars." Then Saul called all the people together for war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men." Saul thought that now David was in the trap but he forgot that a wonderful and divine counselor was with David. As soon as David heard the evil plot of Saul, he immediately inquired the Lord. We read in Sam 23:9-13 When David knew that Saul plotted evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." Then David said, "O LORD God of Israel, Your servant has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake. Will the men of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? O LORD God of Israel, I pray, tell Your servant." And the LORD said, "He will come down." Then David said, "Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" And the LORD said, "They will deliver you." So David and his men, about six hundred, arose and departed from Keilah and went wherever they could go. Then it was told Saul that David had escaped from Keilah; so he halted the expedition.You can see how exact prophecy he received from the Lord and because of that his and his men's lives were saved. Without the counsel of God it was not possible. If he had thought with his own wisdom, he might have thought, "oh, I have saved the lives of people of Keilah... they will surely support me and will stand with me... and fight for me." But it was not the truth. When God gives counsel, it is perfect.One of my friends who got saved and was so zealous for the Lord that she started telling everyone about the mighty deeds God did for her. People started pouring in her house to listen to her messages. God performed mighty miracles through her ministry. One day she came to our house. She was beaming with joy. She said, "I am getting married." Well, that was the last time I saw her happy. Her wedding day was the funeral day of her spiritual life. Soon after her wedding she realized that her husband was not only hardcore drunker but was also abusive. Her husband never again allowed her to start prayer meetings nor gave her permission to pray or take fast. Why it happened? She married a wrong person without taking counsel of God. Without the counsel of God she took a step that was drastic and fatal for her. Her whole life was ruined just because of one wrong step and one wrong decision.My dear friend, your every decision and every step is important. One wrong move could spoil the whole game. Only God can tell that what step will be right and which one will not. He alone can give you right direction.

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
