By Sherly Isaac

Peter Jennings the journalist of ABC news died last week at the age of 67. I watched his program "World News Tonight" everyday. He always tried to impose his liberal views on his viewer. At times I felt his newscast annoying yet his death was shocking news for me. Four months back when he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in his last telecast he said that, "he was a smoker though he quit smoking twenty years back but it may be the reason of his illness."

When Peter Jennings passed away one news anchor said that, smoking is the most evil addiction and this habit is very hard to quit. A man who quit smoking twenty years back still could see the effect of deadly smokes that he inhaled after these many years. At the end that evil addiction cost him his life.

There was an engineer worked with my dad. He was so much addicted to alcohol that whenever he went, he kept one or two alcohol bottles with him in his pocket. He was not a very old man and had teenaged children. Because of his addiction, he got very sick and got hospitalized. Doctors told him not to drink anymore and if he drank only once, he would be dead. That engineer promised that, "he will not touch it anymore." But he could not resist himself and very often he found ways to fool hospital staff and went to drink alcohol. His condition worsened and doctors told him plainly that, "if he wanted to live more in this world, he must not touch the alcohol. But again he could not resist himself and drank it and died. He could not quit his addiction. Without his knowledge he was a slave to his addiction. Jesus said in John 8:34, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin." And also in John 8:36 "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

There are many addictions and sins that enslave people and they are unable to break those addictions. At the end those addictions kill them and destroy their lives. Bible tells us in Rom 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Sin will one day kill you and send you to eternal fire. If you continue in your sins and addictions, it will destroy your life. But there is Good News. About two thousand years back Son of God came down in this world to die for our sins. He gave His precious life on the cruel cross so that we must not die but live forever and enjoy in His presence and His blessings. His blood can cleanse us from all sins. Bible says in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Do you want to come out of your sins and addictions? Are you struggling and are unable to come out of your bondages? Jesus can deliver you. Repent from your sins and invite Jesus to come into your life. Jesus said in Rev 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." Jesus is knocking at your heart's door; will you listen to Him and open your heart for Him? He will come in and give you a new life. He will deliver you from not only your addictions but also from jaws of death.

Message of the Cross...

By Sheela Isaac

1 Cor 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

The Bible says, “The message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.” It means there are two groups of the people on this earth. One who are going to perish and the other group who are going to escape from destruction. Again there are two groups in this world. One who believe in the message of the Cross, and others who believe in mere rituals. Unfortunately most of the churches believe in a ritual that’s why most of the churches don’t preach the message of the cross. And most of the churches do not preach salvation either.

Ok, what is the message of the cross? Pretty Simple!! You and I all are sinners and so we are all in great danger of destruction. We are all heading towards the same fate i.e. hell and we all need salvation. You may wonder why? You may think, “I am a good person, here and there few mistakes are there otherwise my life is ok.” But have you ever thought about your condition? Think about it, if you tell lies then you are called a liar, if you steal you are called a thief (Exo 20). I am not talking about stealing big things or making robbery but if you have ever stolen the pen or pencil in school you are still a thief. If you ever cheated anybody then you are a cheater. You might not have cheated people in big way but if you had said to somebody, “I will do this and that” and if failed to do that you are definitely a cheater and promise breaker. Have you ever got angry with a person to curse him, or destroy him then you are a murderer. How many times we go through such serious sins don’t we? Jesus said, “if you look towards a woman with lust in your heart you are an adulterer.” Mat 5:28 "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” So what’s the point here? All have sinned and all need Savior. If we honestly think we know we all have sinned someway or other and we are guilty of sin. Have you ever thought that in the light of the Holy Bible and according to your own conscience you are a liar, murderer, thief, cheater and an adulterer? So you cannot reach heaven. Because righteous God would not allow a murderer, a liar, a thief, a promise breaker, an adulterer in heaven. He cannot if He is a holy God. It is not possible for Him to being a righteous God to break His own laws. Bible says, Ezek 18:20 "The soul who sins shall die.” Again Bible says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God”, Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Rom 3:10 As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one;

So it is clear that everybody is not going to heaven nor God would allow a sinner in heaven to prove that He is an unjust God. Certainly not! So the people who talk saying everybody is going to heaven is false and misleading. Question is, who is going to heaven and how?

1. Salvation through repentance and faith:
Those who are washed by the blood of Jesus are going to heaven. It is not a ritual but a personal encounter with Jesus. It is totally a personal and individual experience. You cannot have this experience because of your parents, pastor or godfather’s influence as many suggest. When I say personal experience means it is a deal between you and your God (Jesus). Third person’s influence cannot save you from hell fire. Nobody can confess your sins on behalf of you. No one can repent on behalf of you but it is you who needs to do it. It is exactly the way marriages are conducted. Marriage cannot take place unless and until boy and girl agree. I remember a true incidence, which happened in India. A girl was in love with a boy and she wanted to marry him. But her parents were very against it. When they found out that they couldn’t convince the girl for marriage with other person they locked her up in their house. In hurry they searched for a suitable groom and arranged a wedding. They and their relatives forced her and brought her to church for ceremony. Well Pastor asked her, “Will you take this man as your wedded husband?” She replied, “No”. Pastor was astonished he thought he might have heard something else so he again asked the same question. “Will you……...” she again said, “No”. It stunned her parents, relatives and the whole congregation who gathered there. Then Pastor said, “this marriage cannot be conducted because bride is not ready.” This marriage could not take place though the girl’s parents, relatives, pastor and many others were ready. The same thing is with Salvation. Salvation does not come because of some ritual or somebody is forcing it to happen. Certainly not! It is a business between you and your God. So salvation comes only through repentance and faith. That is why Jesus said in Mat 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." John the Baptist preached the same thing Mat 3:2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" You and I need to repent from our sins to receive the free gift of God i.e. Salvation. Salvation is a pretty simple procedure. For salvation you and I do not need big theological trainings, big scholarly degrees or big counseling. A genuine cry that comes out from heart with real remorse for past sinful life is the process of salvation. When you feel sorry for your sins and cry out before God saying, “Lord Jesus I am so sorry for my sins, I am a sinner. I need a place in heaven. I am so feeble to save myself from sin but you can do it for me. I believe you shed your blood on the cross for my sin. Please wash me with your blood.” When this thought becomes a prayer and comes out deep from the heart it brings salvation.

2. Change of heart is Salvation:
Salvation is an instantaneous experience. It does not happen gradually in over period because of much prayer or reading the word of God as many suggest. If you want to know a person is saved or not, the sure test is the change of heart. Salvation brings change of life style, change of behavior and change of mind. 2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Gal 5:24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” The above verses clearly state that a change of life occurs during salvation. If you claim that you are a Christian and you are a saved person then your life style must change. Old things must die down from your life and it should become new. If your life is not changed and you are still living in sin then such claim is futile. Gal5:24-25 also says the same thing. If you are a saved person then Christ must be the controller of your life. Look honestly into your life and run the same tests, which I spoke earlier and see what your life looks like. See and test if you are still a liar, a cheater, a promise broker, an adulterer, money monger or a thief. If you are not walking in the ways of God, if your passions and desires are worldly and sinful then you are not saved.

Bible says a saved person must crucify his/her passions and desires on the cross. Crucifixion of flesh and fleshly desire is not an obligation but it is a command. When you look around many who spent their most of the part of their life and are sixty or seventy years old and still living in sin. It really brings a deep sigh in heart. Most of the time sin and corruption is so visible part of their lives and still claiming that they are pressing towards the goal does not make any sense. If nothing has changed in sixty years if you run for 20 or 30 more years in the same way nothing is going to change. I am not sure for which destination they are running. If you are not saved you will run all through your life and will reach nowhere. Know Christ as your personal savior and turn around. That is the only solution to reach heaven. Life is too short and time is valuable. How long you are going to push it for tomorrow. Tomorrow may never come. Think about it. Eternity without Christ is useless. If whole earth is gained and heaven is lost means it is nothing.
May God help you to find Christ

A Prophet like Moses - Part 3

By Sherly Isaac

Deu 18:18, 'I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him."

Sin bearing Priest:

God promised that He would raise a Prophet like Moses. Careful study of the life of Moses tells us that he acted as High Priest. Bible says in Psa 99:6, "Moses and Aaron were among His priests..." When Israelites sinned against God by making golden calf, Moses was angry and the Bible says in Exo 32:30, "Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, "You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin."

Then Moses went up to the Mountain and interceded for people. Quick Verse Bible study notes say, "Moses offered his own life as an atonement for the people." We read the intercessory prayer of Moses in Exo 32:31-33, "Then Moses returned to the LORD and said, "Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have made for themselves a god of gold! Yet now, if You will forgive their sin; but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written." And the LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book."

God's promise of raising a prophet like Moses came true when Jesus gave His own life on the cruel cross as atonement for the sins of the whole world. He knew that our sins couldn’t be forgiven without offering His precious life. He shed the precious blood on the cross so that our name can be written in the book of life and that we could enter into eternal life. Bible tells us in Isa 53:10, "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand."

The verse tells us that, "When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed," Jesus gave Himself an offering for sin so that the seed of righteousness could be sown. Today because of His sacrifice we can live a holy and righteous life and be sin free.

Few days back I was talking to a Jewish Rabbi and he said that, "Jesus or no man can bear our sins but we ourselves will bear our sins." I showed him the verse written in Num 18:22 "Hereafter the children of Israel shall not come near the tabernacle of meeting, lest they bear sin and die."

If you bear your sins yourself, you will die that's why God appointed priests to bear the sins and guilt of people to make atonement for them as we read in Lev 10:17, "Why have you not eaten the sin offering in a holy place, since it is most holy, and God has given it to you to bear the guilt of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the LORD?"

And Jesus the high priest took all our sins on the cruel cross so that we must not bear our sins ourselves and die but live giving away our sins to Him.

Are you burdened with your sins today? Are you unable to come out of your sins? Come to Jesus and give your sins to Him. He will forgive and forget all your sins and fill you with His peace. He promised in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
