Psalms 121:7-8, "The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore."

Bible tells us that God is interested in preserving our soul and our life. When we pickle a vegetable we use salt, sugar or vinegar to preserve it from spoiling. Likewise fish, poultry and many other things are preserved in ice or icy cold temperature. The whole idea of preserving food is to keep them fresh and to protect them from decaying.

The same thing happens when God preserves our soul and our life. Jesus said in John 5:24, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life."

As soon as a person accepts Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior the blood of Jesus seals his/her soul, life springs up and the person comes out from death to life to live forever. The person who receives this everlasting life shall not go into judgment but he/she shall live forever. This is the hope Jesus wants to give to every person in this world.

You may be thinking, 'what type of judgment' He refers to? Bible tells us in Heb 9:27, "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment." One day we all have to die but the question is where will we spend our eternity? Those who accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior will find eternal life and their souls will be preserved through the blood of Jesus. But those who have not accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior are already condemn according to John 3:18-19, "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

So the above verse tells us that many have willfully rejected Jesus and did not accept Him as their Lord and Savior because they loved the sin and this world more than God. But if we repent from our sins, turn to Him and accept Him as our Lord and Savior, He is ready to forgive and forget all our sins and to adopt us as His own children. We read in John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

It is important to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior so that our lives could be preserved for eternity that we may not die nor go through the judgment of God, but enter into His joy. This wonderful life is available for all of us if we just come to Him and invite Him in our hearts. Jesus is ready to forgive and forget all our sins and to give us eternal life. Are you ready to accept Him today in your life giving up your sins and allow the light of the world to come into your heart so that your life will become full of light.

A few months ago I read John MacArthur's book titled, "Hard to Believe: The High Cost and Infinite Value of Following Jesus" and I was completely shocked and surprised to understand that this man who wrote hundreds of books about Jesus and the Bible has denied the very basic truth of the Bible i.e. "Salvation of our souls".

His whole message revolves around one verse from the Bible Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." If his message is summed up, in short he has tried to prove that salvation is through "self denial" and getting into heaven is by our own effort. But Bible tells us contrary to what John MacArthur has been saying. He missed the very first point of how to get salvation and also mixed up both the topics of getting saved and discipleship.

He says in his book that, "The true gospel is a call to self-denial. It is not a call to self-fulfillment. And that puts it in opposition to the contemporary evangelical gospel, where ministers view Jesus as a utilitarian genie. You rub the lamp, and He jumps out and says you have whatever you want; you give Him your list and He delivers."

If the true Gospel is just a call to self-denial then it is not at all Gospel in the first place. Gospel means Good News. Jesus brought Good News of salvation from the hard work, toil and bondages of sin. Being from India, I am very well aware of what is meant by "self denial". I have seen women waking up early in the morning when it is still dark, taking bath in chilled water in almost freezing temperature, walking to the temple without wearing any shoes on their feet and living a much disciplined life just to get into heaven. I have seen their hard work, I have seen them going on pilgrimage as pilgrims, taking baths as a ritual to just get rid of their sins.

But Bible tells us that our good works are like filthy rags in the sight of God as we read in Isaiah 64:6, "But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away."

Whole of the Bible tells us that we cannot get rid of our sins by any means definitely not by our disciplined life or by self-denial. But there is only one way to get rid of our sins and that is by the shed blood of Jesus on the cruel cross. Unless a person accepts Jesus in his/her life as Lord and Savior, there is no other way out for them. Heaven and hell are as real as this earth and God wants us to come out of our sins and live forever with Him in heaven. Bible says in John 3:16-17, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

In the whole of Bible we never read that by self-denial we can achieve salvation. If we could have achieved salvation by self-denial then we never needed Jesus to have come down and given His life for us. There is no substitute for the remission of our sins even self-denial is not. No matter how much we try we could never be able to wash away our sins. No matter how much we strive, no matter how much we cut ourselves yet our sins would be there.

When Jesus' birth took place the angels sang a beautiful song which is recorded in Luke 2:10-11, Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

The birth of Jesus itself was a good tiding of great joy that a savior is born, that a deliverer is born. We have nothing to do but just come at the feet of Jesus and ask Him to forgive our sins. As soon as we do that, He will remove our sins and give us the authority to become God's child. John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

Becoming God's children is not a dull, gloomy and sorrowful moment but is a moment of great joy. It is a moment of deliverance from sin and bondage for which even the angels rejoice when a person gets saved as we read in Luke 15:10, "Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

And if you have become child of God, you can enjoy whatever God has to offer. Everything belongs to God, belongs to you.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
