God of the Bible identified Himself as Father. In Deuteronomy 32:6 we read, "Do you thus deal with the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father, who bought you? Has He not made you and established you?"Just before God delivered the Israelites from the bondage of Egypt He told them to observe Passover as written in Exodus 12:5-14,.'Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted in fire; its head with its legs and its entrails. You shall let none of it remain until morning, and what remains of it until morning you shall burn with fire. And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord's Passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance."Here we read that God bought them with the blood of the lamb as payment and on that day they were delivered from death as God passed over those houses where He saw the blood of the Lamb and death did not destroy them. Later Jesus came and gave His life for our sins. He shed His precious blood on the cruel cross and if we apply the blood of Jesus on our heart's door, we can save ourselves from the penalty for sin, that is, eternal death and eternal damnation. When we come to Him, when we accept Him, we have His promise that we can have our status as children of God as we read in John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."Sin is the thing that separates us from God. When Adam and Eve sinned against God, God removed them from His holy presence. And in Deuteronomy we read that the Israelites lost their status as God's children because of their blemish and because of their sin as we read in Deu 32:5, "They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children, Because of their blemish: A perverse and crooked generation."But if we repent and turn from our evil ways, if we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He would adopt us in His family and give us the status as children of God. God not only wants us to have the status as His child but also He wants us to keep walking in His holy ways and stay away from any kind of sin and blemish that would destroy our relationship with God.

Being crucified was a degrading, insult, and the idea of worshipping someone who had been crucified was absolutely unimaginable. Of course, we don't see people being crucified now as Paul's listeners did in the first century, so the impact is somewhat lost on us."And in Page 26, "The Greeks wanted wisdom, and the Jews wanted a sign, God gave them exactly the opposite. The Jews received a skandalon, a crucified Messiah--scandalous, blasphemous, bizarre, offensive unbelievable. And for the Greeks who were looking for esoteric knowledge, something high and noble and lofty, all this nonsense about the eternal Creator God of the universe being crucified was idiotic."Of course crucifixion is a horrific form of capital punishment, it was the most humiliating death a person could ever have. But saying that the message of the cross is a shameful message is the greatest tragedy! Because the message of the cross is the most wonderful message for every dying human being and not a shameful message. Paul never said that the message of cross is shameful but he simply said in 1 Cor 1:18, "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."When you do not know the Lord, when you do not realize the significance of the sacrifice Jesus did on the cross, of course you will feel like it is a shameful message. I remember when I was a small child and it was Good Friday. My mom fasted on that day and we attended three hours of long Good Friday service in our Church. Then the day of Easter came and we gave sweets to our neighbors. While receiving the sweets, she (the neighbor) looked a bit surprised and asked, "two days back you were fasting, now what happened that you are giving us sweets?" I admit that I felt ashamed to tell her that my God died so humiliating a death and yet I somehow managed to finish telling her that death was not the end of His life, He rose from the dead on the third day. I had head knowledge about Jesus' horrific death and resurrection but I never knew the significance of His death in those days. I never knew that He went to the cross because of my sins and because of the sins of the world. Yes, it is true that Jesus died a shameful death but the message of the cross is not shameful. But this is the only message that can deliver us from our sins.And later when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I realized that He did this for a wretched one like me who never deserved forgiveness and yet God provided for me a way through His Son making Him to suffer the most horrific and most inhuman death so that I could go free and not to go through the punishment for my sins.Yes, my friend, if you have not found forgiveness of your sins then you cannot understand that what a great love God showed on the cruel cross just to redeem us, just to bring us out of eternal damnation and eternal hellfire. You will only understand this truth when your sins are forgiven and when you value that what a great sacrifice He did so that we could have forgiveness of our sins, those sins which cannot get forgiveness by any means whatsoever.. The message of the cross is not shameful as John MacArthur writes in his book. Neither did Paul ever say that the message of cross is shameful but instead Paul was preaching the cross of Christ no matter what would come before him because this was the message which saved him from his misguided religious zeal and madness and because this is the only message that can bring life into our dead spirit. This is the only message that can bring forgiveness of our sins. The message of the cross is the only solution for each and every person who is under the bondage of sin, the only medicine for every person who is having the deadly sickness called sin and the only hope to escape from the great wrath of God and from the punishment for sin, that is, from hell fire.Let no one tell you that Jesus' sacrifice was in vain and the message of the cross was shameful message and absurdity! No, never!

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month.
