By Sherly Isaac

When Jesus was in this world He trained His disciples in so many ways and one of His teachings was how to ask God and receive things. In John 16:23-24 Jesus said, "...Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."

Jesus did not say that God will give you some particular things but He said that He will give you whatever you ask Him. A few of the specifics we see in these verses are that, we should ask the Father in the name of Jesus. Before we ask something, we need to come into a personal relationship with God as Father and child. I remember that in those days when I was not yet saved, though I prayed to God in the name of Jesus, it seemed as if my prayers vanished in thin air. I could not know whether my prayers would have reached God or not. But after I got saved and became a child of God, when I prayed, I knew for sure that my prayers had been heard and I saw answers to my prayers coming through. It happened because I confessed my sins to Jesus and accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. At that very moment I became a child of God as written in John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

When we come in the relationship as God's children, He listens to our prayers immediately because He says in Psa 34:15, "The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry."

What will they do when you ask for things from your parents? You simply tell them about your needs and soon it will be fulfilled, right! Just like that we also have to tell our heavenly father what we need and He will answer from heaven.

Jesus also told them in Mark 11:23-24, "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."

Isn't it amazing! Just ask and believe that it is yours and it will happen to you. Sometimes we fail to believe and because of that we lose our blessings. Without faith it is impossible to please God. I remember in my childhood days when my dad would go on his official duties to big cities, we will ask him to bring things which were not available in our city or village where we lived. And we anxiously waited for his arrival to get those things. He never disappointed us, though he had to take time to buy things from his busy schedule. If our earthly father can care for us this much then how much our heavenly father will care for us! He will definitely hear from heaven and answer those prayers you have prayed for. Probably you have lost hopes and stopped praying those prayers thinking, it is never going to happen. But God wants us to cling to Him, just believe in Him and one day He will bring it to pass.

John MacArthur quotes Paul from 2 Corinthians 4th chapter 1-2 verses, "Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God" and writes in his book titled, "Hard to Believe: The High Cost and Infinite Value of Following Jesus" (Chapter 3, page 48, Title "Paul's Gospel Strategy") that, "First, we will not surrender in cowardice." And "He(Paul) refused to feel discouraged and compromise the truth just because it could cost him big!"

Of course Paul never compromised the truth nor did he teach that hardship is the way of salvation as John MacArthur does. Paul never tampered the message of Jesus Christ just as John MacArthur does. Paul preached loud and clear that salvation is only through the blood of Jesus shed on the cruel cross. He made it very clear that the wages of sin is death and that only through Jesus Christ we can get forgiveness of our sins. Our sins cannot be forgiven by any other means, such as, by our good works, or by living a hard life, or by persecuting our souls or self inflicting wounds but by the Blood of Jesus alone.

It is true that life can bring tragedies and trials but it cannot give us forgiveness of our sins. Creating offensive and hostile environment is not the preaching of true Gospel. Now what is offence? Paul writes in Rom 5:15, "But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many."

Here we can see that when Adam sinned he committed offense and it had resulted in the death of many. But through Jesus' life that offense was removed. So Paul was calling Adam's sin as offense and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the grace of God. It means that the Gospel which is "Good News" of our salvation is not offensive but the sins which we commit is offensive. If one continues in sin/offense he will surely die eternally, that is, will go through eternal death. But there is a way out! There is the Good News that Jesus died on the cross to take away our offence and give us eternal life. We need not to preach the offense (sin) in order to obtain salvation but we need to just come at the feet of Jesus and give our offense (sin) to Him and He will give us salvation instead of it.

John MacArthur thought that preaching offensive message is the right way but here is what Jesus said in Mat 18:5-9, "Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire."

In another place we read Hbr 12:14, "Pursue peace with all [people], and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:"

But I am not sure how and from where John MacArthur got this idea that he should preach offensive messages and make others to live a hard, boring, dull and ugly life. In fact it is not the message of the Bible but it is the message of the devil who wants to rob our peace, joy, happiness, blessings and wants us to be in the unending cycle of hardship and sorrow. But I have the good news that Jesus came to redeem us from all our sorrows by forgiving our sins. Today His blood is available for those who are carrying heavy loads of sin and sorrow.

Just come to Him, Jesus is ready to receive you with open hands and to take away all your sins and sorrows. Yes, He died for you and me to give us a wonderful life.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
