By Sherly Isaac

As I wrote in the last week's editorial, when Jesus comes in our heart, He gives us a new beginning. In Rev 21:3-5 we read that, "And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."

Also in the Old Testament we read that God is interested to come down and live with us. He wants to dwell in the midst of His people. But God is holy and He cannot come and dwell in an unholy place. So God instructed Moses to sanctify himself and the whole congregation before God could come among them as we read in Exodus 29:42-46, "This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the LORD, where I will meet you to speak with you. And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by My glory. So I will consecrate the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. I will also consecrate both Aaron and his sons to minister to Me as priests. I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God. And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I am the LORD their God."

In the Old Testament sacrifice was done for the sanctification of souls and for the forgiveness of their sin. But that was not sufficient for a permanent solution. So Jesus came in this world as a man and offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. So when a person accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior repenting from his/her sin, the blood of Jesus cleanses him/her from all unrighteousness and prepares his/her heart as a dwelling place for God.

When God comes and dwells within us something marvelous happens and He wipes away every tear from our eyes, He removes the pain and sorrow of death from our lives and gives us a new life. Adam and Eve never knew sorrow and pain when they were in the Garden of Eden. They never cried nor did they see death so long as they did not sin because they were with God. The presence of God made them happy and joyful. But when they sinned they lost their joy and peace. They came into great pain and sorrow, the terrible pain of death in their lives.

But Jesus came to restore our lives back as it was in the beginning with Adam and Eve. He came to take away our guilt, sin, pain, sorrow and even death. So when a person comes to Jesus, great joy and peace fill their hearts. They experience great joy. This joy and peace continues when we walk in the ways of God and not only that when we close our eyes in this world, He will give us a place in heaven.

God is interested to make everything new in our lives. He wants to roll away sin from our sinful peaceless lives full of sorrow, full of all kinds of troubles and to fill us with great peace and joy that this world cannot give. It happens when we come to Jesus and give our lives to Him. Yes, my friend, you may be going through untold troubles and you might be saying, "I am sick and tired of my life" but just give chance for Jesus to come and clear every mess of your life. And He will gladly do that.

John MacArthur writes in his book titled, "Hard to Believe: The High Cost and Infinite Value of Following Jesus" (Chapter 2, page 20, Title "The Hard Truth") that, "Local Church pastors are among the first to be seduced into using this designer gospel, crafted to fit the sinner's desire and carefully tweaked to overcome consumer resistance. They stylize church meetings to look, sound, feel and smell like the world, in order to remove the sinner's resistance and lure him into the kingdom down an easy and familiar path.

The idea is to make Christianity easy to believe. But the unvarnished, untweaked, unmodified, unavoidable truth is that the gospel is actually hard to believe. In fact, if the sinner is left to himself, it is absolutely impossible."

John MacArthur again misunderstood the Gospel of Jesus Christ which is the simplest truth in the whole world. Jesus clearly spoke in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." It is completely simple to come to Jesus' feet with all the loads of sin and guilt and to unload at the feet of Jesus. But people like John MacArthur have made this simple Gospel of Jesus Christ as a hard one. I am not sure why John MacArthur resists to go directly to Jesus and why he insist on people to do hard work for their salvation? Is it not the pride that is preventing him to go at the feet of Jesus? In fact there is no such hard Gospel in the Bible. But just come to Jesus, and you will be free from your sins.

Further John MacArthur writes, "This is the pop philosophy: "If they like us, they'll like Jesus." The whole scheme works superficially, but only if we compromise the truth. And we can't just pick on the local preachers for reinventing the gospel, because they're acting no differently than the big-name televangelists and other more widely known evangelicals. To maintain their positions of power and influence, once they've achieved them, to maintain this tenuous alliance with the world in the name of love, attractiveness, and tolerance, and to keep the unconverted happy in church, they must replace the truth with something soothing and inoffensive. In fact, as a Calvinist once said, "Sometimes we don't present the gospel well enough for the non-elect to reject it."

I think that John MacArthur is making the simple Gospel of Jesus Christ as a harder one so that it could not reach every person. What does he mean by non-elect? I would say again that John MacArthur has misunderstood the word of God. God has not selected few people randomly as John MacArthur thinks but those who have found forgiveness of their sins by the precious blood of Jesus are only the 'elect people'. Why did God choose Abraham or Israel to be His people? It was not a random selection. God chose them because those people were willing to humble themselves and were ready to fall at the feet of Almighty God humbling themselves before God. History tells us that Abraham sought diligently for the Creator though he and his whole family were idol worshippers. But at one point he realized that there must be a more powerful creator than to whom he was worshipping. His search for truth was not in vain for God revealed Himself to him.

God chose Israel not because of his greatness or because they were greater in number than others but Moses wrote the reason why God chose Israel. In Deu 7:7-8 we read, "The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt."

And in Deuteronomy 9:4-5, "Do not think in your heart, after the LORD your God has cast them out before you, saying, 'Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land'; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is driving them out from before you. It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD your God drives them out from before you, and that He may fulfill the word which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."

So we can see that God displaced the Canaanites because they were evil and God could not tolerate their sin. And the same fate waited for the Israelites when they went in the footsteps of the Canaanites. God spoke through Moses in Deu 10:16, "Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer."

The essence is to humble themselves and to fall at the feet of God for forgiveness of their sins and to live a holy life. Those who were full of pride and trusted in their own ways to come to salvation were wicked in the sight of God. Unless a person come at the feet of Jesus, he/she cannot become elect or be chosen. A chosen person is he/she who humbles himself/herself and enter into a covenant relationship with God Almighty.

John MacArthur further writes, "As a Calvinist once said, "Sometimes we don't present the gospel well enough for the non-elect to reject it."

That is the purpose of John MacArthur to present the Gospel that people may reject the Gospel. Gospel should not be presented so that people may reject it but Gospel should be presented so that people may repent from their sins and turn from their evil ways and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Gospel itself means that "Good News". Good News that God Himself came down in the form of a man to take away our sins and to redeem us from utter destruction. But John MacArthur has very little knowledge about the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are not elect or you are not chosen. But as soon as you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you will become His child. According to John 1:12, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name."

So please humble yourself and come to Jesus and become one of His chosen people, His own children.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
