Last week we heard the news that Osama bin Laden who terrorized the world and who was the mastermind of 9/11 tragedy was killed by US Navy seals. Now we hear that they have found a great stash of pornography from his bedroom. Here we see a man who identified himself as a spiritual leader, as an icon of religious leaders, who could not show others a model of righteousness. Some people feel that God would be very much pleased if they killed those who are not in their group and they don't care if they live a filthy lifestyle.

But the Bible is very clear that we cannot go to heaven without holiness. Last week we saw that those who follow God should walk in the same holiness as He is. God said in Leviticus 11:45, 'For I am the LORD who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy." And in Heb 12:14, "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:" And in 1 Pet 1:15-16, "but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."

One of the greatest and distinguished qualities of God of the Bible is that He is Holy and He wants us to be Holy as He is holy. God of the Bible has zero tolerance regarding sin. He hates sin with all His heart but at the same time He loves sinner and wants to pull them out of their dire state of ungodliness and uncleanness.

Once Jesus said in Mat 5:27-30, "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell."

Jesus spoke in simplest words that let no organ of your body hold you back from getting into heaven but live a holy life so that you may not be barred from going to heaven. In Hebrew 12:14 we read, "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:" Peace is the opposite of violence, terror and killings. Holiness is the opposite of filth and dirt. God wants us to pursue peace and holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

For this very purpose Jesus came in this world to give His precious life for us so that we could come out of our sins and live a holy life. Today, because of His shed blood on the cruel cross we can get forgiveness of our sins and we can come out of our sins. We can live a holy life. More than that, when our journey ends in this world, we will be in heaven. If you have not yet received the forgiveness of your sins then today I invite you to come to Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior.

John MacArthur writes in his book titled, "Hard to Believe: The High Cost and Infinite Value of Following Jesus" (Chapter 1, page 12, Tastes Great, Less Filling), "According to lots of Churches and preachers, the answer is to popularize the gospel: get rid of all the slaying-yourself and carrying-your-cross stuff, and get a decent band up there on the stage. Tell everybody God wants him to be happy and successful and full of self-esteem."

John MacArthur further says, The only problem is that saying those things gives people who don't know any better the illusion they're saved, when they're not. And someday, when they face Christ, they're going to say, "Lord, Lord!" and He's going to say, "Depart from me. I never knew you. (see Matt 7:23). What's a good band worth then? About as much as healthy self-esteem.

John MacArthur by quoting Luke 13:23 tried to give an impression as if everyone who will say "Lord, Lord!" will be rejected by Jesus but if you read further particularly in 27th verse it says that, "'I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity." Here Jesus is talking about those who are sinners, either whose sins are not forgiven or those who have gone back to their sinful lifestyle.

That is the reason why we need to come to the feet of Jesus to find forgiveness of our sins and to walk in His holiness. Our sins cannot be forgiven by our sacrifice. Jesus has already given His life for us and there is no need of another sacrifice to get rid of our sins.

Again John MacArthur gives example of ten virgins from Matthew 25:1-13 and tries to tell us that though the foolish virgins confessed, "Lord, Lord", using right attitudes, right terms and showing their zeal and passion yet they were not given entry when bridegroom came. But if you read the whole passage you can understand that the foolish virgins were not ready to meet the bridegroom. Their confession had nothing to do with it. Mat 25:7-8, "Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'" The oil here represents the Holy Spirit.

Bible tells us in Eph 5:17-18, "Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit."

These foolish virgins were once saved but they did not have the filling of the Holy Spirit and their lamps were going out. If you are a saved child of God, you need to walk in the ways of God. You need to be filled with the Holy Spirit Everyday. Let not your lamp lack oil.

John MacArthur says in Page #10 says "Jesus set the standard as total self-denial. In Luke 14:26, a great multitude was following Him and He turned and spoke to them: "if anybody comes to Me"--meaning those who wanted to be His true followers--"and does not hate his father and mother; wife and children, brothers and sisters; yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciples." Self-hate? What a powerful truth! This is not salvation by good works but the very opposite salvation by rejecting all hope of pleasing God on our own."

But John MacArthur once again forgot that salvation of our souls and discipleship are two different things. Self denial is not the answer to our salvation for which we have only to come to Jesus and to ask for forgiveness of our sins. To get salvation we need not to do anything except to come to Jesus.

The verses, Luke 14:26-27 that he has quoted talks about discipleship and is not the passage which deals with salvation., "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple."

Then he further says in page #11 quoting 27th verse that, "It can't be any clearer than that. If you try to hold onto you, your plan, your agenda, your success, your self-esteem, you lose forgiveness and heaven."

Here the question is, "Whether that person has received the forgiveness of his/her sin or not", in the first place? If a person has not received the forgiveness of his/her sin, then there is no use of denying himself, sacrificing everything or giving up worldly possessions or family etc. It really does not affect your destination because unless you are forgiven of your sins you cannot enter into heaven.

Then he further tells us that "Mankind wants glory. We want health. We want wealth. We want happiness. We want all our felt needs met, all our little human itches scratched. We want a painless life. We want the crown without the cross. We want the gain without the pain. We want the words of Christian salvation to be easy."

To me it seems completely amazing to see how anybody could interpret the Bible and twist the meaning to such an extent? Bible tells us clearly that Jesus came in this world so that we could be free from our sins and the burdens because of our sins. Jesus Himself said in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Jesus Himself said in John 14:1-3, "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." Jesus Himself said in John 15:11, "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full." and in John 16:24, "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."

Isaiah writes very clearly that Jesus has suffered for our salvation, for our peace and for our healing as we read in Isa 53:3-4, "Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed."

Yes, Jesus has done it perfectly and beautifully and no man or woman could ever do this by their self-denial or by their own sacrifice. And Jesus did it for you and for me. Let no man deceive you saying that we need to sacrifice our lives in order to get forgiveness of our sins or salvation of our souls. Let no man deceive you saying that salvation is not easy. To get forgiveness of our sins or to get salvation of our souls is very easy. Just come to Jesus, repent from your sins, confess your sins to Jesus and accept Him in your heart. And when you do it from the bottom of your heart, you will see forgiveness of Jesus coming into your life and with that it brings great joy and peace.

I would tell you that it is a lie to tell that we will get nothing if we follow Jesus. No it is not correct. When we come to Jesus and repent from our sins the first thing He does in our lives is that He forgives of our sins and fills us with great joy and peace. He heals our sicknesses, He wipes away our tears, and He gives victory and success in our lives. He turns around our situations.

It is a lie that we will not get anything if we come to Jesus. Please do not believe in such lies. It comes not from the Bible but from the pits of hell. Jesus said in John 10:10, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

When Jesus was in this world He healed the sick, wiped away the tears of people and even raised the dead. Wherever He went great joy filled in those places.

Yes, Jesus came to give us life which is full of joy, peace and happiness. He came in this world to give us life by removing death from our lives. We are dead in our sin and when He gives life, it is not a sad experience but an experience of great joy. Salvation of our soul is not a sad experience but it is an experience of great joy.
You can have this wonderful experience if you just come to Jesus and ask forgiveness of your sins.
